So much pleasure...but where is the pain?
« on: February 10, 2007, 12:35:37 pm »
Ok, strange topic for a window cleaning thread I know, but do you ever have a run of days or weeks when everything seems to be all pleasure?
Even this week, which has been disrupted cos of the weather has been good to me, I had three weeks previous to it where I'd earned more than I've ever earned before, this week was actually a welcome rest week, with lots of spare time, but even so I still earned far more than I used to earn.

so I keep wondering when the pleasure pain balance is going to kick in! :-\

I open the post and there is a letter attached to a cheque...here we go, are they going to cancel? Complain?
Nope, it's from an old gent thanking me for continuing to clean his windows.

A customer pulls up near me while I am working in the high street...an important customer, big house and big office too, she beckons me over. is she going to complain? Crap! her house is a big georgian surrounded by high trees did I do a poor lob the last time? The office is a highly priced one, maybe she is going to complain about the price?
Nope, I'd only done them a couple of weeks previous, but the weather had been foul, and could I do them again?
Oh yes ;D
But life always bites you in the bum now and then, and I keep wondering when the pain balance will set in!! :-\

I did an old account of Squeaky's the other day, he dropped her close to a 12 month ago.
She wasn't in when I called so I did it anyway, huge conservatory out the back, and it was stinking, as were all the windows, particularly the frames, full of spider nests and no end of other muck, the UPVC of the conservatory was covered in green algae, and of course loads of cobwebs.
Squeaks I believed charged her £12.00 for her clean, but I went ahead without her permision and gave it the full works, got all the algae off from the gutters down to the sills, all the frames done, a swallows nest knocked down and all the dirt and muck cleaned up and I slapped a bill in for £30.00
job took about 50 minutes, but I still think the price was a tad low, but I was dreading calling in to her place of work to collect the money off her :-\
surely she would complain about the high price when compared to what Squeaks was charging?
but no, she was over the moon and was as happy as Larry to pay what was on the invoice!
And equally happy to pay £18 per regular clean too, even though is was £6.00 more than squeaks old price!
Work worth over £50 a week has been picked up in the town centre I do a lot of work in, and quite recently I also picked up a Wetherspoon's for over £50 a week too (buggers have yet to pay me yet though >:()
January and the beginining of Feb has been fantastic for me so far...

so much pleasure...but what about the pain :'(

Enjoy it while it lasts  :)
I've had a good run lately as well.  Got so far ahead that I've had the past week off.  Still got a few new jobs as well to be started when I'm next in that area.  The only slightly dark spot is having to buy a new pump so the windscreen washer on my van works.  I need it in order to get the MOT cert.  They weren't able to source the pump locally and I think they must have had a problem getting one delivered from elsewhere due to the snow.
However, like you say, I think Oh no when there is a letter with the cheque.  It's usually just a thankyou note  :)
