I'm planning to start a small carpet cleaning buissness in the next few months and I've been wondering could You give me some advice?What make of machine is best to by for the first time maybe some advice about chemicals and anything what might be useful to know at the beginning.Thank You.

That's right I'm new to forum so please forgive me , once I learn the rules everything will be fine I hope. I live in Edinburgh with my wife , I'm 25 and both working trying to save up some money to take off with carpet cleaning

    I`m always happy to help fellow Adams being an Adam myself,

  I use a prochem steempro max hot water extraction machine and I usually use
powerburst as a general prespray and extraction pro in the machine for most jobs, although this will vary depending on what type of carpet your cleaning,

 Most people on here will tell you that my machine is not the best or the cheapest but I like it....................................

 your best bet is to book yourself on a training course for a couple of hundred quid and see if there are any carpet cleaners in your area who will take you out with them for a few days.

i'm in the same boat as you, just starting out in c/c. i won't pretend i can give loads of advice because i can't, but one thing i will say is don't do what i did and get your self a small/cheap machine. i got a numatic for 500 quid, and am restricted to the type of work i can do with it ( it only has a 10ltr tank and not very good suction, you've got to fill the tank up 3/4 times every time you do a house!) i was ill advised by a dodgy rep.
i wish i'd spent a couple hundred quid more and got a better portable ( could't afford anything else ).
anyway i hope all goes well and you make it work

buy the best machine you can afford mate , as you will soon grow out of the cheaper ones, maybe a good second hand machine would do the job never buy a single vac there so poor mate but they are cheap

if your worried about who your buying a secondhand machine off then stop off ebay ive heard some real bad storys off people that have got them off there  how ever lets not tar all with the same brush as im sure theres good ones on there as well but its a gamble , maybe someone on here may have something for you .

or you could buy a reworked machine this way ull get a year warranty with it

Go on a basic carpet cleaning course. It will provide the answers to many of your questions and will prevent you making silly mistakes in front of the customer!

Prochem give a free training course voucher with each machine they sell. I beleieve other machine manufacturers do the same. Quite often an experienced cleaner will buy a new machine and have a left over voucher. Worth checking ebay and putting a "want" ad in the buy and sell section of this site.

Jon- Keep your Numatic when you get your bigger mc. If you have a bath room at the top of 5 flights of stairs you'll see why. It would make an acceptable spotter as well and if the big mc goes bang............
