you will need to know your total weight with every thing you intend to carry taken into the weight

then search for trailers that have the capable payloads

then check the laws for towing weights of your intended trailer in regards to the vehicle towing

hope this helps

Hi Stuart,my vehicle is a Citroen Berlingo 2.0 hdi desire and the kerb weight is 1311 kg and the 85% towing weight  is 1114 kg,
do you know what trailers are suitable for a 400 or 500L tank and the only other weight will be the pump battery and hose,
cheers Gaz

Gaz the tips I can give you is make sure its a braked one, mine is only 6'x4' with brakes and has a total weight of a ton, but with a 250ltr tank in it, I just have enough room for my hose and reel, pump box, and battery, so if you plan to carry anything else in it, go for the biggest you can.

I also welded  support legs on the back of mine, so if I was loading say a fridge on it, I would drop the legs to stop it tilting up. and they serve me well for when I am reversing it, I can see the back of the trailer by the legs in there raised position.
A Jockey wheel is a must if you want to move it easily with a full tank.
For Revesing they should have the self release brakes, just like your caravan does.

Cheers Jeff,
i have been looking and there are quite a few different trilers,i`m probably thinking of a box type but may even go for a open top if the payload is good and make a cover for it,
i`m in no rush so plenty of time to choose,

When you have made your mind up gaz, email me and I will send you a diagram of an alarm  system I have designed for mine, you won't be able to hitch or unhitch it without the alarm going off, its based on a car alarm so hazzard lights will flash aswell. all for the sake of £40/£50 well worth the investment me thinks ;D

I am having the top made for mine, so I will alarm the lid aswell, I don't trust anyone with the tools of my trade.

I'm just fitting out a trailer with a 400l tank. When I've finshed I'll post some pics on Matt's site.

I don't have a brake as Jeff suggests and will probably use wedges under the wheels. I don't have the stand either so it is possible it could tip back.(I can buy one for this trailer and maybe I should). I do have a jockey wheel.

The other bits, pump box, DI unit, battery, and 100M minibore hose reel fit in rather well.

1 litre water = 1 kg.

So a 400L tank plus hose, tank, battery, pump - I would aim for a 500kg rated trailer.
It's a game of three halves!
