Evening chaps :)

I wonder if you can help? Earlier today whilst cleaning i noticed my prochem commanche has developed a rather odd whining noise  ??? could this be one of the vac motors on its way out?

Thanks Paul

Paul,

There are a number of possible causes. without having hear the noise it is hard to say which is most likely.

It could be air leaking past the rubber gasket of the soil tank. if this is the case you can often alter the note by blocking/unblocking the vac hose. I have never closely examined this machine but Prochem often use a rectangle of foam rubber attatched by double-sided tape. Over time this can get sucked inwards and cause a whine. If at replacement gasket is not available 1" wide self-adhesive draught excluder can be used, but make sure the strips are pushed together at the corners.

If the gasket is ok but you can alter the note by varying the vacuum, it could also be an air-leak in one of the internal hoses.

The only time I have heard an Amtec vac unit whine is when the nut holding the turbines to the motor shaft has come loose, alowing one of the turbine plates to spin - in this case the noise is at its' worst when the motor is starting and spinning down. This is very rare.

Let us know what you find.

John.

Having repaired a few vacuum cleaners in the passed i would discontect one vacuum and run to find which one was noisy  then check the bearings  and brushes  paul
