HELP with new system please
« on: December 30, 2006, 08:16:56 pm »
Hi All,

I have been out working with my new system for a couple of days. I have noticed that the tank hose pipe goes to a round barb strainer (I think this is what it is called) with an arrow showing which way it should go. This then goes to the 100 psi shure flow pump. When I stop the pump and go to the next job the water seems to be going backwards from the barb strainer back into the tank. I have been taking the pipe off the pump and sucking until the strainer is full again so I can do the next job.

Is there a non return valve I can buy to stop this happening, or anything else you can think of that could be causing this?

The barb strainer is above the the outlet on the tank and has been fitted as per the suppliers instructions I think.

Hope someone has an idea.

Thanks, Jason.

the pump will fill the strainer, no need for you to do it, just wait a few seconds till the pressure kicks in

Hi,

Thanks guys, is it normal for the strainer to empty then, it doesn't seem to be filling up on its own if that's the case??? I am not known for being patient, how long should it take to fill back up?

pumps are self priming. There will be small time delay when first turning on pump while it fills with water and starts pumping. It also empties when turned off back into its source. You are just witnessing this happen through your see through strainer. It is normal.

I tool mine off as I found it to be the main culprit for causing air locks.
I was lucky enough to pick up some stainless tube from a car boot sale. These tubes were made to go into the old beer barrels and had strainers built into them.
If you were to use solid plastic or stainless tubing, you could put a piece of scouring pad in the bottom of it to act as a strainer. Your solid tube is guaranteed to stay in the bottom of your container or tank too. Just push your hose onto them and tighten with a jubilee clip. Dai
