Thank's mate, it seems to get better and better the more info i get. This site really is a excellent way of gaining knowledge. I have learnt so much after just a week of finding it and the response from all you w/c has been superb.
Thank's a million! I can't wait to get started.

Cheers

Danny

Be aware that you have to register with the IR or you get a financial penalty.  I think you have three months from date of start-up to do this but check because that may be old info.
Also, I suggest you get an accountant from the start.  He/she should sort out the registration for you.

Thank's Shiner, yes you are right about the 3 months, and yes i do have a great accountant as i was self employed for 12 years up until the last 6 months when they made it very difficult to sub contract from the same person for any length of time without being classed as a employee.(maintenance work)
I appreciate your concern and will post my progress with the w/c if anybody is interested in reading it!!
All the best and a merry christmas to you.
cheers
Danny

Hi Danny,

I know its all probably been said, but believe me... you won't regret making the move :) I was working full time in an office up until July and hated every minute of it.  I was depressed and used to come home feeling miserable. My girlfriend kept telling me to quit and find something else, but I was always too nervous about having no money coming in.

Then one morning I couldnt take another day of it, so just walked out 30 minutes after arriving (not the most responsible of actions, but it makes a great story! :P). I already had a few w/c customers on the weekends, and knew I could build up more business, so spent the rest of the week canvassing.  Its now been about 5 months, and I'm making more than I was when working full time.

It might be hard at first, and it might take you a while to build up speed and start to make a good hourly rate.... but dont give up! :)

Coming back to the question of fliers, I put my name and address on my flier and a lot of people have commented positively on the fact that I do.

My advise to you would be give it a couple of months before you jack your job in but spend your time planning. Then you can really go for it about March when the weather starts improving and people are more likely to want their windows cleaned.

I have a cheap leaflet but it works very well. The secret is quantity not quality. Deliver enough leaflets and you can't really fail.

If you contact me on vincent.green@virgin.net    I will send you a copy of my leaflet so you can have a look.

Good stuff.  Didn't realise you had already been through the culture shock of entering self employment.  A lot of people entering window cleaning haven't been self employed before (such as myself back in 91).
Please do post your progress with w/cing.  I do like to see how people are doing with it.

Sampson go through to you account page with virgin and see if there is anything in your inbox.
I had this problem and sometimes it gets locked for some reason.
