Picked up a customer with pilkington glass today
« on: November 28, 2006, 10:27:33 am »
Been rained off for 2 days now, so I went out dropping leaflets to build the business as I am still a new boy.

Anyway, got a call today to drop by a give a price for a house that I dropped a leaflet @ yesterday. ;D

Got to the job and the lady came out and asked me to give a price for front and back.....so I did £11.00, then she said , this self cleaning glass is not very good, my husband had it fitted at the time of having the windows frames changed.

She went on to say the sun @ this time of year makes them look even more dirty ! I said but it's raining now but she said they leave streak marks and and the corners of the glass never get cleaned.

She then wentt on to say that the only way to clean windows is to spend the money and to get a window cleaner to do them REGULAR ! ;D

I know somebody the other day had a topic on the forum about this, so give it time and they will be back to you. ;D ;D ;D

Although I never really in my heart of hearts thought that Pilkington Self-Clean Glass posed a serious threat to our livelyhoods it's reassuring to read your comments Warren.

Thanks

Simon (at home nursing yet another cold probably caught from a sickly customer)

Is this the glass that has been sprayed with some kind of chemical? I remember ages ago cleaning a new customer only to find that all the glass had this stuff on that smeared as soon as I squeegeed. After that I couldn't get rid of it. She cancelled.

I also have a customer who has a conservatory with special self cleaning glass and he said not to touch it as that would ruin it.

I'm not sure about WFP though, if that would have any effect on such glass.

I am on a wfp system so I don't think this would be a problem.

The reason: self cleaning glass just needs water to rinse the glass clean, it has a layer of chemical that helps clean once water is applied. So in theory my pole should be right at home cleaning them up !.... ;D

Clearly my sales patter is right shot away.
I had something similar where I talked myself into a demo on th grounds off having to show proseptive customers lovely clean windows, and particulary as there was a big splodge on one window.
End result I didn't get the job but did notice a few days after I'd brought it to their attention that a frame appeared in order that they could clean it themselves >:(
