Can I sub contract out contrcat work ??
« on: October 28, 2006, 08:14:28 pm »
I've got a few big new build contracts recently and i've been asked to put a tender in for a couple more...Only problem is I don't have time to do any more even though they are very  lucrative.

If i win a contract to do some work in the name of my business, is it possible ( and legal) to then contract out that work to another window cleaner ??

yes perfectly legal and done alot in all trades, the only thing to remember is if you have them working in your name they are representing your company so you better be sure of there quality.

Make sure there insured ect but at the end of the day the buck stops at you.

Why not get the subbies to cover your existing work while you keep your standards high on the new builds, which will put you in good stead for the ongoing jobs there once the new occupants are in?

Just give them a list of the work to be done and do the collecting yourself later!
You're a Scottish window-cleaner? Licensed or not, get yourself along to www.slwcn.org right now !

I had thought of that it's just my customers will be there forever (hopefully) and this sub work wont.... i have a good working relationship with my customers and dont want them to think i have dropped them just to earn a load of cash from these other jobs.

Some might stipulate in the contract that they do not allow subcontracting to avoid a chain effect where you end up with a monkey cleaning the windows.

Check the small print if it's a written contract.

Sounds like you may be working for a construction company doing builders cleans, in which case they are used to sub contractors and you shouldn't have a problem.

The sub contractors should provide you with their own risk assessments etc. to be bona fide sub contractors (just to complicate matters).
