hi guys,

could anyone tell me approx how much waste will i be producing per day if i need about 500 litres of useable water.

i'm having a bit of a drama about getting access to a drain where i need to site my tank, i have a soak away but i'm a bit concerned that i will be flooding the ground at the front of my house if i just use that.

any help would be much appreciated.

Depends what system you are going use. Waste water could be anywhere from 50% down to zero (if you believe all the hype)

Warren, I think the ratio is about 3 parts waste to 1 part pure, so you'll have a lot of waste water.

I also had a similar problem and had to connect a good few meters of 'inner pole hose' to my green waste water hose and run it around the house to an outside down-pipe drain.

There was also a sewerage cover 'thing' I considered drilling a small hole into to drain my waste water into, which would've worked too.

Waste to pure is anything from 3:1 down to 1:1 (yeah I know, there are some zero waste ones about now too) so it all depends on the system you use, the more you spend then the lower the waste.
What sort of soak away are you talking about?
If you get one of the small R/O systems the waste wate is only coming out at a trickle, it is nothing like the flow rate if you just turn the outside tap on!

I drilled a tiny hole into one of the downpipes from the guttering around the house, and fitted the waste pipe into that...I hardly ever even think about the waste now.
