Hi

Fit a varistram as this by- passes the preasure switch, and you will not have the problem again and you can still use your old pump.

I have an Ionics thermopure system. Came with 2x flo-jet pumps. They died a while back. I have replaced them with the new pumps that Ionic are using now (£108.25+VAT). Haven't had a problem as yet (6 months). One thing. the new ones are quieter. Maybe just because they are new.

them pumps also look a look bigger than the flojet pumps, do you know who manufacters them

the flojets can be a little noisey ain't it, especially if you mount them to the van uses it like a boom box ;)

sounds cool then may give it a go, although to be fair to my flojet this is the first switch to burn out on me and i've been using this for 18 months, my last flojet burned out on other van 6 months ago as water got in from a leak ididn't realise was there so that couldn't be helped, i just know the switches are a common problem hence my question

i always use a shurflo pump and varistream. as said it bypases the pressure switch, so the problem that we used to have of switches breaking is now eliminated.

Yes they are bigger. They are longer on the part which stands proud of the mounting. Ie They are taller. The mounting bolts are the same tho.

No idea who manufactures. I will ask Steve next time I speak to him.

As far as I am aware Ionics us Aquatec pumps, with their own label.

http://www.aquatec.com. (not the one in Scotland)

The problem with all these 12v pumps is they are being used for a purpose they were not designed for, so regardless what the sales man told you, you should expect a high failure rate. We normally give pumps a 2 year life and if they last longer your doing well, but if you run them long and hard they can pack up within a year.

So I would include in you budget & maintenance a new pump every 18 months.

And I know that some one will now post a reply stating that they have a pump for 17,000 years and its sill going OK, my statements are generalisations from over 15 years of using these pumps.

I think that is another reason to fit vairstream as the pump no longer woks flat out, but turns only at the rate to produce the flow of water that you want.

Roy,

Yes we always fit a varistream, but that does not remove the fact that a small 12v pump which uses a cam & diaphragms to create the pumping action will not last forever. All I am saying is you have to realise to budget for it, and don’t be surprised when it happens.

Hi Steve

I agree every thing mechanical will fail at some point, due to wear and tear.

I have used the same flowjet 100psi pump for over 2yrs but still carry a spare on van plus have others at home.
