 :o
Iv got one, only had it 2 months, bit early to tell (6 years old :-\)
spent £500 on smarting up the body and spraying the bumpers white.

I think they look realy smart,  good to park just using the side mirrors and drives well. Would be too small for a T/M, I would think.

Won International Van of the Year for 2005.
If your going second hand, Sorry, Pre owned.
I would advise you put cash aside just in case of the unforeseen.
But Im sure you`v thought of that already  ;)
Good luck if you go ahead with it.
Cheers,

The story I heard was that early CDI models could have injector/pump/supply problems after abot 50k. My source was a former Mercedes salesman.  Later models were no problem.

Safe and happy cleaning :)

Len Gribble advised me not to get a 108 model as there were problems with them but I think that was the early models so 2002 is ok

Maintenance/servicing costs will be above average. Is it worth the extra dosh for the Merc badge? Only you can answer that.

I have a three year old 108 model... no problems at all

Servicing:
I have a mobile chap I have been using for years....The job gets done properly and although he is not cheap its a darned sight cheaper than a designated garage.

Had two.
First early 108 had gearbox (diff noise) under warranty otherwise no probs.
Had a 110cdi until recently. Drove fine for 6+ years. Only problem was glow plugs which don't seem to last. If they break off in cylinder head when changing- mega bucks.
Finally developed fly by wire prob- went from 80mph to tickover without warning. That's why I haven't got one now!
Cheers

Before i came back to carpet cleaning i had a driving job,van i used to drive was 52 plate vito had the van 1 year went through 5 injectors at £200 each(thank god the company paid for them)mechanic said it was to do with my van doing high milage (120,000 a year) and having a speed limiter on it apart from that the best van i have drove -  fast, plenty of room , comfortably , good on fuel.
if i could aford one now i would get one.

108CDI ok bit underpowered imo, but that would depend on what you carry but gross laden weight is high than mine! :o

Only had one breakdown that was outside a cc supplier in Peckham, Robert kindly towed me to a Merc dealer parts £4.50 bill about £68.00. Service second to none, it took longer to pay the bill! Not complaining.  :-\ ;D

Glow plugs on all ally heads can be a problem; on the other hand so is the sign people with a sharp knife, when I have time get the rust done. :)

Calmore has a point! But I find their consumables cheaper than most, wing mirror glass about £17.00 VW’s a credit card is needed (good van though)

Chris

(Finally developed fly by wire prob- went from 80mph to tickover without warning) did this happen when you turned on your sidelights??? If so I have a Solution to this, it will be in the Highway Code.  So don’t be put off!

Would I buy another one YES but not in white and it would be the new type RWD.

Servicing basic stuff I do bit like cc’ing ;D ;D

I was told it was the throttle position sensor- £120 later and with the same problem I decided to cut and run.
Re: the Highway Code, what I should have said was 3500 rpm to tickover, not recommended on a busy motorway.

Cheers

Thank for the info

Your problem sounded like mine, took it to the merc main dealer they plugged it too computer, could not find the fault! A young apprentice was walking by and said to he’s colleges check brake lights, sure enough no brake lights (bulbs were blown) this only happened when I need to use sidelights (re highway code). No what you mean mine was on the 406 north circular.
