Van Heaters
«

Hi guys and some gals,
Saturday morning in Edinburgh was a bit cold, you could feel the winter creeping in.
It got me thinking about equipment freezing in the van. (sorry if I'm putting you on a downer after such a nice day today)
Iv done a search, but there doesnt seem to be a solution. Anyone got the answer ?
Its not practical for me to remove everything that's likely to freeze. Got caught out
twice last year.
Any advice appreciated as always.
Cheers,
Rab.

Rab, I wouldnt know how to find it but I am sure someone on here will be able to...... There are quite a few topics on this matter, from just putting in a heater and making do to fitting out a proper one for about 800 quid. I insulated my van so to date havent had a problem. I insulated it the same as when I was in California and believe it or not in some places the temps will still go down to minus 20. It didnt freeze there so I am sure it wont here either, best, Dave.

I bough a cheap oil filled electric radiator from Argos for lass than £20. I stand it where my tm's solution container stands and i just plug it in overnight. They are cheap to run and very safe. Never had any problems.

Safe are they ?
I was in B&Q once when a bloke brought back a 1 day old oil filled rad for a refund, it set on fire the first day.

Yeah, good solution,
But I don't have access to leckie.
Thanks for advice Dave, Really cant be arsed insulating the van.
Looking for an easy fix, if it exists. But if that's what it takes to not to let the customers down, (and lose money) then I`ll give it some thought.
Cheers,
Rab

loft insulation behind your ply lining will do it, (rockwall-that fibre glass stuff or the foam used in caveity walls) your need to do roof too, cus if your going to do it you got do it all really.

How much and where did you get your heater done?
As I have a truckmount and dont want to take the probable risk of it freezing up. I cant plug my van in and I do know that we get snap frosts so a van heater is much better than getting up at 2 in the morning to plug the van in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Rab,
Bit nippy down the coast on Sat morning too. Being new I never thought about this particular problem, but seeing youre post and some earlier ones from Dave about the insulation in his van got me thinking. A few weeks ago I bought a xtra tuff plastic workshop storage locker from Wickes to keep all my liquid chemicals in. This sits in the back of the van and is about 3ft wide by 2ft deep by 2 ft high (without me going out to the van to measure it properly) It would be dead easy to line this chest with sheet polystyrene offering insulated storage for the chemicals. It also has 2 roller wheels so you can take it out and move it easily.
Just a thought for us porty users, Cheers,
Adam.
Oh and it cost about£20 and they are still in stock, big yellow and black box
