Customer I went to today has been quoted £300 for the following on a new suite by the store she is buying it from.

To apply soil proofing to  2 x two seater sofas and 2 armchairs, fibre content mainly cotton.

Makes you sit up and think doesn't it.

What would you charge for the same.

was the quoted £300 or was she quoted " it only cost an extra £4 a week" which is how most national stores sell their protector, they add it into the credit agreement

She's not buying on credit

This is the price from the store for application if she wants it done prior to delivery.

I used to have a contact in a high end furniture store.Min price about £3000 for 3 piece.He would try to sell protector to customer for £275.If sucessfull he would ring me to go and do the job.I had to give £50 to him,cost of solvent protector about £20 ,15 mins work easy money for both of us.Unfortunately he got the sack!

Id charge £85, local superstore charge £200. If a suite has been properly treated, when it comes to be cleaned, there are signs (obvious to the cleaner) that this is so. However, I have cleaned many a suite that is supposed to have been treated prior to delivery and its glaringly obvious that there no treatment present on any part of it. I will go further and say that I think theres a big racket going on out there with these stores and they are conning an extra £200 out of unsuspecting customers.

I don't think its not sprayed on purpose more like lack of education, the shop managers think that it probably doesn't work or how long does it take to spray a darn suite anyway I think the lads are swinging the lead, I'll give them 5 minutes and it can dry over there next to the fork lift truck or worse they can bag it up as soon as it's sprayed.

With Soluguard, I'd charge £145.

I note that Brucie mentioned 15 minutes work - I would expect to spend about 60 - 90 minutes.

With a "new" suite I would first carry out a close inspection for any damage the client may not have seen, then pre-vacuum with a vibrating  vac - you would be surprised how much dust comes out of a suite the day it is delivered.

I also spend a little time with the customer advising on general care of upholstery, and any particular point regarding the specific fabric

one of the worse things iv seen in the protecter area is to show the vic...client how  protecter works by putting some on a paper towel air dry it and run water on the towel ...mrs h see,s how it can work and thinks, great go do everything...and the rug sucker changes bottels and puts plain water on the carpet , sofa, etc... and charges up the ying yang for it.......seen it ,but never did it....

Yes, Solugard I would charge £150-£168 as it's pricey to start with.

I explain customer stain removal procedures and it would take me about 1hr to apply.

I have come across these guys spraying water aswell and also, the best one, selling protector to the customer and telling her it's in with the cleaning solution in the tank, that scam went on for quite a while.
