Hi All,

This question is for trad only (Sorry wfp'ers).

Do any of you lot use extra chemicals in with your window cleaning fluid to help remove stubborn grease spots.

I keep coming across these types of windows, where no matter how hard I scrub with my applicator the little grease spots won't budge. However when I scrub the window with my scrim it seems they come off with a bit of elbow grease.

Is there anything on the market that will remove such spots with little effort.

I use a v small garden hand sprayer with a strong solution specially for kebab saturday night specials, but usually have to resort to a scraper blade.

i used to have this house near me, than THREE times a week in the summer would have a BBQ

the window upstairs was covered, it was so bad, i asked them to BBQ away from it a bit, they didnt, the window just got ignored

I keep a seperate cloth and dab a little white vinigar on it, this also gets rid of most water stains.

Ammonia Just an ounce or so in your bucket add more for really greasy spots

I am 100% waterfed pole, at least I used to be until the summer. Now I routinely do patio doors trad because of all the greasy finger marks. Seems to come off with a bit of Squeegiee Off and scrim.
It doesn't have to be barbeque greasy marks, just hand marks in general. One area where trad definitely scores over WFP.

I will try the vinegar method first as this seems to removes just about anything. (Gets the bathroom taps and sinks sparkling anyway).

Pat, where could i get some ammonia from if the vinegar doesn't shift it easily. Is it safe to use this method on all windows??

Try Your local chemist for the ammonia

Been using ammonia for 20 years with no problems , The newer type of windows with self cleaning attributes and those with a coating have instructions to use vinegar instead but the odd time i have used ammonia on them there has not been a problem. also windows with a protective film have the same instructions again same results when i have used it , Its great for cutting grease or nicotene
