Oxford is in the thames water catchment area, I know the water is hard down there becase we sell quite a few water softener to that area. your best bet is to call 0845 9200 800 and ask thier help line.

cybersye,

40s not bad, about a 90% reduction. I don’t know what restrictors RO man use on the 450GPD it may be these are bit off, we us a needle valve on ours so the drain can be adjusted to exactly match your input pressure. On our 400GPD 4-pump system running at 70psi and hard water we get 6-7ppm on water of 320ppm. A softener won't necessarily reduce your TDS but it will make your membranes last longer.

380 down to 40??  75Psi pressure!!

We get 5ppm from our merlin setup, tap pressure only 48psi and tap tds today was 340ppm (fluctuates between 300 and 350).  Plus we are still getting a product rate of 1.8lpm.

I wouldn't be happy with 40ppm - no way - I'd suspect freshwater is right and say that the flow restrictor in the waste pipe is not the correct bore or length for the membranes.
