« on: August 29, 2006, 04:58:10 pm »
Please give reasons as this is my next move. If its security its not a problem as the security system ive had fitted is the buisness. Thanks.  ;D

I voted no but it's a meaningless vote really because I just haven't got around to it yet.  I intend to have it done in the next few weeks.  I also want to sort out an 0845 number before doing it too.

I voted yes.

As you are going round the backs of people's homes whilst they are at work.
Other people might not know who you are.
And before you know it the police are knocking at your door asking why you are going into people's gardens.

I have mine signwritten but when i first got this van it was unsignwritten and there was a burglary in a street i was working.
The first place they came to my house asking questions.
But as i had my uniform on when the police called they were happy i had nothing to do with it.

Never had a problem with a signwritten van

i voted yes, i had mine done as i think it gives a more professional image, aswell as the added benefit of advertising obviously.

i use a virtual landline phone number diverted to my mobile phone, supplied by vonage.co.uk it only costs £8.00 a month and as far as anyone is aware the number on the van is my home phone number. you can choose your area code for most places in the country.....very handy.

I would if I used a van (which I don't need to).

I think if it's on a car you look a bit of a tool.

I havent got a van,all of my current work is within walking distance even with a ladder and bucket of water but I need to expand, would love to have a van but need to increase my monthly turnover to justify it.If I had a van I would definately have it signwritten-invaluable advertising I think.

Well I'm the only "would not at the moment", reason being I'm picking up work at quite a reasonable rate so business is picking up as fast as I need it too,  and somehow I would rather just pick up work near where I'm working, another reason is I dont want to be answering the phone and arranging quotes after work.

I have my van sign writtn, but I don't think it has brought in  enough work to cover the 200 quid I spent doing it, but it stops people wondering who hasjust pulled up in a white van and wandered around the neighbours house.

Hi everyone

I have both my vans sign written for the following reasons.

1) Free 24 hour a day 365 days a year advertising for the business
2) It presents a professional image
3) Can create jealousy from neighbours (Mrs Jones has one so I want one) hence create more business
4) When advertising locally, people can relate to your advert because they have seen your vans driving around.
5) The client is more inclined to use your services, because they are more aware a sign written van is less likely to be a fly by night person.

The list is really endless. For such a small cost, I firmly believe it is a great investment to you and your business. People can also assume, you may have things to hide, if you travel around in a plain van.

I voted yes.

I didn't have my van signwritten for advertising to gain new work.  Just as well, I haven't ever had a single call from it!
But all the other positive reasons mentioned, mainly I am easily recognised by my commercial clients, and on residential work, I don't look too suspicious, I hope.  Local phone number and mobile.  I have my business name on it, and it is noticed by people, adds credibility.

would you believe this?

I've had my van sign written for a while now and I have'nt had 1 phone call because they saw the van. Anyway I don'tneed to advertise as I get all my work through recomendations from my customers.

The reason I had the van sign written Is because I wanted a more proffesional image, as most window cleaners where I live have cars with nothing written on them.(not that I've got anything against window cleaners using thier car)

It also stops people talking and wondering what you do! I have a lot of houses out In the country and If people were to see a plain van pulling up at someones house for 20 min they could It's a burglar & phone the police and I could do without that hassle

How do you lads know you havent had any work via the advertisment from the vans signwriting??Do you know how every job you get comes from and can say with 100% certainty your sign had no effect?
Not trying to cause a row or get in anyone's face just genuinley interested in knowing how you know.
My father in law was thinking of building me a barrow type push along thing to carry me ladders and I was dead interested cos  it meant I could store stuff inside and get it sign written to some degree for advertising.

Where do you get those magnetic signs from?

I've just had the sign writing removed from my van so I can sub off the 'big boys'. A clean van is prefered apparently. Like some here, I didn't get a sniff when it was sign written :(

Ps: I am mainly commercial - noticed most here are dom bods.

I think most potential customers when ringing up tend to state where they got your number from, if they dont its simple to ask.
