Advice about Prochem Steempro 2000
« on: August 02, 2006, 08:31:54 pm »
Has anyone had a problem with the vacuum pumps going wrong on their Steempro 2000 far too regularly?

Mainly the carbon brushes wearing out within a few months which seems excessive. The pumps are made by Lamb Electric - has anyone tried fitting an uprated pump or different type/manufacturer and found improvements.

An increase from the current 100psi max would be  bonus.

Thanks in advance

If the brushes are wearing out I'd suspect either the commutator is scored, the bearings are work or there are one or more shorted windings in the coil.

Also worth checking that the correct brushes are fitted..if they are too soft a grade they will wear out quicker.

Went through loads of vacuum pumps on my steempro. Just ended up getting very good at swapping them!(20minutes!) I think Prochem know there is an issue but it is a good source of income for them. Just make sure that all your filters are intact & regularly cleaned out, this does help

Thanks. The com is in very good condition. Not rough at all. I am working on the pumps for a friend that owns his own cleaning company. I will find out the spec of the brushes. Mauybe they are too soft. I was considering making the springs less compress a little less. As long as the brush is on the com it should increase the life of the brush.

If I can source harder brushes I will post the details.

Thanks Tim. See my post above. I will let you know if I see any improvements and details of the supplier.

Do you know how much the brushes you use cost? and do you buy direct from Prochem?

Thanks Mike. Was the footprint of the vac the same as the original (Lamb Electric), ie did you simply fix it in place of the original without the need to make new fixing points. Not a problem either way. Incidently, are they of similar physical size.

I can't seem to find any info on these pumps. Would you be kind enough to let me know the website or other contact details.

In your opinion, are the Woodbridge pumps as good and do you know how much vacuum they are producing.

A lot of questions I know. Your help is very much appreciated.
