I’ve been asked to scrape and treat a roof. There isn’t a large amount of moss on it, but there’s enough to warrant its removal. I’ll need to hire a scaffold tower, which is £90 for the weekend.

I have a rough price in mind, but I wanted to check whether I’m pricing it too cheaply or too expensively.

What would be the going rate for a roof this size?

I would spray with hypo and come back a few weeks later and scrape it. I would charge £500 but for a friend/customer then I would be happy with £400. I did one last year and bought a box set of scrapers from Spinaclean which fit a wfp. Did it from a ladder and scraped it down and into a bag, never again, hard work. In future I would use my scaffold but I mainly just spray and clearout gutters for £280 and my customers are happy with the job.

I think the better question to be asking is how long will it take and go from there.

I reckon a day so £400 plus scaffold plus chemical, £500-£600 ?

Minimum charge for any type of roof clean on a small bungalow would be £1000 plus VAT prices go up from there depending on size and difficulty

The lady is i nice genuine customer thats getting a lot of people wanting to walk all over the tiles and jet wash it

If pressure washing you should be using a fsc on a pole not walking on the roof , but using a pressure washer you will spend as much time cleaning up the debris as cleaning the roof itself a messy job and a lot of slurry to get rid of you need to price accordingly

A job like that working from scaffolding tower has got to be £1000+.
When you take into consideration the equipment hassle and chemicals you will be thankful for pricing higher.
Thats working with pole and scrapper.
I have never quoted bellow for a job like that.
Learnt the hard way.

I wouldnt even waste my time scrapping the moss off that.  Theres not that much. Id just spray algo clear pro on it and itl come off itself.

Why would anyone do a one off, really hard job for £400-£500 for a days work, possibly 2 involving erecting scaff towers and buying specialist chemicals?
I don’t take on this type of work but if I did would want atleast 3 x my daily window cleaning rate to make it worthwhile.

Unless you have done it before, you dont realise just how hard a days work it is.

Looks like a piece of p1ss when you get your first one to do. After a couple of hours your thinking what the phuck have I done.

After I done one of them ive never physically scrapped another.  I just spray it with algo clear pro one year. Then when its all fallen off by the next summer I respray it again as the moss would have stopped the tiles from getting saturated the first time.
