Resin in main tank blocking up a pump
« on: September 12, 2017, 06:21:19 pm »
whats the best way to deal with this i was wondering why one pump in particular needed turned up to max turns out a place i got water from must have recently pumped resin in  their tank and now i have it.

ive been cleaning the filter but i cant do much right now i'm guessing i need to drain the tank check all the pipes to the pump and flush the tank out on a hill and hope it all comes out till then i need to do a days work as its full of water just hope the pump doesnt get worse will that pump most likely be damaged?
how esle would you handle this problem  has anyone had this or something similar before???

dont know what vac or how i can vac it
but does and has it damaged the pump? otherwise i can pump it all out for sure and probably clear up the hose by cutting the end and letting it flow
i think the way to go here is figuring out if the pumps going to get damaged

Wet & Dry vac/gutter vac, basically the same thing

Empty your tank of most of the water and then use the vac to clean up all the resin you say is in your tank, just make sure you park on a hill (ish) so the water is going to where your tank lid is as when you drain the tank that's where the resin will be

In regards to whether you'll mess your pumps up tomorrow, do have a pre filter before your pump/s? If so then you'll be fine...
If not then in theory yes you could damage your pump but in practice I doubt it will.
I've had resin in the bottom of my tank for over a year now as I couldn't be bothered to sort it.
Because the resin just sinks to the floor of the tank and the outlet is slightly higher than the floor of the tank, the pumps have never (to my knowledge) ever sucked it up.
Also have pre pump filters/strainers before both pumps though

Yes I have all the pre filters strainers but still little bits of resin  will get through .hopefully the pump can manage it the resin would be At the bottom but I use water when it's low and put the van on a kerb to use all the water  (I  won't do that again until I try and clear it)

So what you're saying is tip the tank so the lid is side ways (it's an upright tank) then Try and vac it up its a good idea but I don't have a vac

I think what I'll do is disconnect the pump and all pipes I'm sure I'll find some resin in those the pump pipes will have some and then I'll place the tank on a high kerb and let the water seep out a few times I'll pour down a couple of 25l drums of pure water to try and get out as much as possible
I'll have to remove the hose lock connectors on the hose reel and flush it out as well as some of it would be building up there as well
Hopefully I'll get the most of it
What a nightmare  :-\  if it's not one thing it's the other
If anyone else has dealt with resin in the tank or you got any better ideas let us know

Easiest way to clear resin from the bottom of the tank is to start a siphon with a hose and suck it all up.

I had this problem a while back, I thought it was sand at the bottom of my tank just sitting there. Emptied my tank and then hoovered it out a few times and it seemed to sort it out
