Connecting 2 identical machines?
« on: June 05, 2006, 01:36:57 am »
Hi all,

I read a post a while back about someone connecting 2 machines together for added vacuum. I understand this means connecting the regular vacuum intake from one machine to the exhaust of another machine and running the hoses accordingly.

Is this safe and will it increase vacuum / suction / water recovery? I have 2 identical ageing machines both with 135psi and twin vacs. I know the solution pressure isn't an issue as the wand will be supplied by one machine but will suction improve and will it damage my equipmet?

Just out of interest as I'd like to purchase a more powerfull machne but limited funds prevent me from doing so at the moment. Dryer carpets mean happier customers right!

Any comments appreciated.

Kind regards,
Jason.

why not just buy a booster box from solutions. i know someone who has and the cfm is amazing. as far as i am aware pulling through vacs with another machine does work but it will shrten the life if the vacs being pulled through

hi, do not think it is a good idea to connect to exhaust ??????????
you would be sucking water through the second machines motors

Conrad

you need to cut an hole in second machine, fit 11/2" vac connector, short length of vac hose from first to second.

I use a 1 1/4" drain tee to connect two upholstery tools to the same machine and it works very well. I suppose the same would work with 2 mcs. 2 short pipes to the tee and the main pipe on the bit sticking out the side.

Hi there, if i was going to connect two portables the front /leading porty would be used as the booster, vac hose to tool would come from this,
on the excel i use to have the exhaust was underneath, out of this blew warm damp air and the odd time bubbles  ;D
i could be wrong about connecting to the exhaust, am not keen on the idea, thats the way i would go above (double twin vac booster) looked at putting third vac in excel but no room to fit it in  :'(

Thanks for the replies,

Sorry for delay in replying. I'm thinking of trying Conrads idea of t-joining both machines at their waste intakes. Connecting them together exhaust to intake would I'm sure reduce motor life as pointed out.

This wouldn't be for everyjob, just for problem jobs where drying quicker is better for custy (water retaining upholstery / carpets etc.) And when wet carpet could cause danger for custy in house (carpet leading onto slippery floor surface in another room).

Booster vax box sounds great but limited funds require use of existing equipment.

Thanks again for the comments,

I'll let you know how the doubled up machine vac system works out.

Kind regards,
Jason.

While I understand what you are trying to do, wouldnt it be easier to use an air mover to force dry the

problem area. Otherwise surely too much faffing about. Other than that put an extra vac pump or two

in the machine, must look better to the customer than two machines rinky dinked together, best, Dave.

Hi Dave,

Love the phrase "rinky dinked" I'll remember that one ;D

I do use an air mover on problem areas when suitable (no fireplaces, pictures on wall or window frames / customer in windy room etc.).

My point was recovering more water by using my existing equipment. There is no room in either machine to fit an extra vac motor (not that I'd know how to do it anyway!). So just a thought about connecting them together utilising all 4 vacs through the same wand / hand tool.

All the best,
Jason.

hi all, i hav bin connecting  two machines up for years and it dos work with no probs   and it will not suck water into the second machine as the first machine will shut off the vacs when full thus the second machine cannot suck any water  as it is sucking the air the same route as the first machine  when connected to the first machines exhaust outlet   and if u connect by a t peice at the inlet of both machines all that happens is they will shut off when each or both are full   and with to ninjas with auto pump are used u can clean all day long without any shutting off
