Slower and steadier
« on: April 23, 2017, 09:07:21 pm »
Having bought new thinner hose from gardiners my flow has reduced somewhat, wasnt best pleased at first.

After a few weeks with less flow my pace has slowed down and to be honest i think it was a good thing now, it just feels like im doing a  better job and has added to my work satisfaction, i feel more confident when reeling in that the house i just cleaned is bob on. I feel less tired at the end of the day also, and it hasnt realy slowed my overall day down as much.

I have read threads on here about people using super high flow and smashing there way through a days work which i liked at one point cos it meant i finished a little earlier, but having cleaned the inside of a conny i cleaned the day before i wasnt happy with the finish, it wasnt bad and i had no complaints but being my own harshest critic it wasnt faultless like i like to imagine.

Now i find myself doing one more round of agitation on each window i clean and the rinse is a little more thorough.

Has anyone else here changed the way they work at some point? I suppose we all evolve.

Does anyone else go for the slow and steady approach?

From experience it comes with age; slower, yes; steady, no; unsteady, yes.  ;D

99 times out of a 100 i find its much better to have a higher flow.quicker rinse and scrub and on to the next window.i reckon i save at least 30 mins a day compared to lower flow working.

brisk and steady not slow and steady for me! ;D
price higher/work harder!

I'm slower and more methodical in setting up and driving around, but I like my super high flow, so I spend less time on the actual windows than I used to.
I started with a backpack, conserving water
I was seriously slow
Now I have 650 ltr tank, my tap water is 30ppm and I work with no controller
This means its great for me using a high flow.
I've found that this is the quickest I've ever been, and I'm sixty
I'm like an expert footy player that lets the ball do the work
Sort of like Franz Beckenbauer, but English.
And a window cleaner!!!!

It is not about speed, it is about quality and guarenteering that quality clean after clean.
Guard well within yourself that treasure, kindness. Know how to give without hesitation, how to lose without regret, how to acquire without meanness.

New work always gets the slow steady treatment till I get to know the job well, then I take whatever time is necessary for a given job. The majority of my work I can do at a steady brisk pace without wearing myself out but there are a handful of jobs I take a little more time on as the windows tend to pick up more muck than most and need that extra scrub.

The thing is, i dont understand how ones dont seem to think you can get both. Some seem to think that with speed//higher flow rate that somehow you have to compromise quality. You dont, mostly the quality comes from quality of your water and brush (as in a clean brush so not polluting water straight away at the bristles) and your technique!!

I have days where i cant be bothered and i take it slower and other days where i work at my usual every day speed. But my quality remains consistent regardless of my speed

IMO - going slower and steadier is a step back . If you understand how the water is cleaning the glass and where is best to start i.e. At the top of the frame , once you've scrubbed that on high flow , there's a good chance you've washed a lot of dust and crap of the rest of the window. And then you clean the rest of the window and rinse . Custards don't tend to look at glass like we do , I'd prefer to go back and clean again if asked than Working slowly

I concentrate more on doing a thorough scrub and worry less on the rinse, if scrubs good, then rinse with high flow and water pulls the dirt down better than a miniscule low flow with brush on glass sideways with 4 or 6 jets and actually use less water now with higher flow  :)
