Charging backpack on the go
« on: March 21, 2017, 08:41:40 pm »
I have a Gardiner backpack that came with a standard wall charger.
I wonder if it can be charged directly from the cigarette lighter outlet. The output on the power brick says DC 12V which same as the car socket. Perhaps if I put a solar panel charge controller between the socket and backpack it would protect it from overcharging the battery.
I don't use the backpack a lot these days so would prefer to charge it on the way to a customer just like an auxiliary battery from split charge relay. Has anybody tried something similar?

Probably best buy an inverter.

i dont see the point.i too have a  gardiners backpack that only gets used a few times a month.i just charge it up every couple of weeks with the supplied wall charger.the battery lasts ages!
price higher/work harder!

Take a spare battery. They're pretty cheap.
It's a game of three halves!

Thanks.
I did use an inverter but don't see the point converting 12V DC to 240V AC and then back to 12V DC.
I thought that perhaps there is a backpack charger that can be plugged directly to the cigarette lighter.
Maybe Alex Gardiner can create something like this for us  ;)
