Ashbys Ninja - Pump problem - No Manual
« on: May 27, 2006, 05:17:54 pm »
Hi all, just starting to set myself into carpet cleaning and bought a load of used equipment a few days days ago including a Ninja HWE machine. Guy who sold didn't have the manual for it and I have requested one from Ashbys on their answer machine as well as doing their training course next week.
Problem I'm having is I have been trying out the machine today but the pump doesn't seem to push any water through, it does start up and you can hear it running but no pressure.
Have tried bleeding any air out of it but still no joy. Water is coming through the outlet but just at a dribble both with the pump switched on or off makes no difference.
Does this mean the pump is knackered? Even though it was supposedly serviced recently by Ashbys & the pump seems to be running or is it something I am doing wrong.
Having no manual I am having to learn by trying at the moment.
Have rung Ashbys to find out when last serviced but they are now closed till Monday so if anyone has got any answers in the meantime I would be grateful.

Hi Paul

Make sure the connectors (hose to machine and hose to wand) are properly clicked into place (if they are not then the connector valves will not open properly).

Also have you checked the flow control valve.  It is located near the motor switches. turn this gently anti clockwise to send flow to the hose.  If it is turned all the way clockwise the flow will be diverted back into the solution tank.

Give me a call on 07841 450739 if you need any help or info.

cheers

matt

UPDATE: Sorry Paul - flow control valve = clockwise to the hoses and anticlockwise to the tank.

It may need de-scaling, although if it's serviced probably not, search the forum for Phos.
Ninja Manual? Check your e-mail.  ;)

ps Monday is a Bank Holiday so I doubt they open til Tuesday.

Connect the open ended drain hose into the wast tank and switch the pump on and see if there is a flow, if there is then undo the jets on the wand and pull out the filters and check for a blockage.
Also, if the solution hose has not been used for a while it may be blocked with rust from the connectors.
If there is is no flow with the open end hose then there may be a problem with the pump.

If you need a new pump, I can recomend the 165 psi pump with induction motor from Totton pumps and downsize on jets.

Thanks for the replies guys, and thanks to those that offered and sent copies of the manual via email.
Have tried some of the suggestions but still no joy, there is no flow with the open ended pipe attached except a dribble through gravity so I guess the pump has had it, but would it still be running as it is now?
Anyway will be speaking to Ashbys Tues. morning to find out when it was last serviced as it was claimed recently.
As for a new pump, they don't look particularly difficult to replace, is that the case?
If so I see you mentioned a place Cloverleaf, have you got a number or website, and what should I be looking for? Also anyone else got suggestions where I could get a good reasonably priced pump I would be grateful.
Thanks again.

Hi Paul,

http://www.totton-pumps.co.uk

The 165 psi pump will probably be the bigest pump you can fit straight in (just) without modification.

The resulsts with this fitted are obviously better than the 135 psi.....and much cheaper than Ashbys from the above supplier.

They are a bit fiddely to change, Undo the bolts you can get to easily then swing the pump round to get at the rear bold next to the body, best done with a socket and spanners. You will probably need to cut the pipes off at the pump but may be enough left for the new one. The new Totton pump will have push on connectors, so no need to cut pipes in the future. You will also need to get some blue electrical bullet connectors from your local car accesory shop.

Not sure of the part no of this pump without looking at mine, if you need it you can e-mail me at johnmilnes@onetel.com
