Replacement UPVC Door Hinge Cover/Cap
« on: August 16, 2016, 07:45:28 pm »
I managed to break a hinge cover on a UPVC door today (see attached picture).

Are replacement hinge covers generally a universal size? Also is it simply a case of prising the old cover off with a flat blade screwdriver & clipping in the new one or is it more complicated?

?

Just send that pic to your local dg trade supplier and they should be able to help.

Top tip

Take the one off under the hinge  (most have two ) and use that, or if above eye level, use the one off the top hinge.

Mr B
If in doubt.....Leave it out !!

That's if you can get them out without snapping. Still I like your thinking though

Having 'phoned various UPVC parts suppliers this morning it's looking increasingly likely I'll need to buy the whole hinge.  Just shows what a throw away society we have become ..... I'll just have to be more careful when I clean the hinges on UPVC doors in future  :)

Things like that don't bother me anymore as most of the time it's down to age of the plastics. The worst ones are aging window drainage covers, soffit vent, fascia screw caps etc that just all seem to disintegrate just by going near them.     ;D ;D

That looks about the same size as a milk chocolate button.

I called the company who supply these - they were pretty unhelpful and unable to confirm whether these caps would fit. Looking at the prongs on the back they don't seem to match...

Just Google it they sell them in bnq pack of four £1.85

Thanks - maybe worth taking a punt on these. I'll measure up ...

Glad to hear I'm not the only one  ;D

I believe those caps unscrew. Had same problem swapped damaged cap with the top hinge top cap, as others have suggested.
