As regular forum members may recall, I usually do not permit a "not today thanks" with no good reason.
This week I turn up to find:
House1
Decorator up a ladder painting windows. Can you leave 'til next week? OK.
House2
Can you just do the bottoms as we've just painted the tops yesterday and the paint will still be a bit soft.
House 3
Scaffolding up in preparation for render being painted
House 4
This an occasional conny roof which one side of I do from the neighbour's garden with their permission. Get there today to find they've put up a plastic shed right at the spot where I have to stand to do the roof from. So dropped the job.
House 5
Normally I do the fronts of three in a small close and then put the hose over various fences and do the backs. The third of the three, if they are home I put the hose over a high wall and they let me walk through.
So I've done all the fronts and two of the backs and I knock to "go through". The householder who was fine about twenty minutes earlier is in a right old state having just taken a call from her best friend to say her (the friend's) husband dropped dead last night and the undertaker's been and can she come round to my customer and can she help her make all the necessary arrangements.
So I get asked if I can leave the backs as the friend is driving round as we speak and it might be a bit awkward with me there mopping the windows while said friend is pouring her heart out . So I agree
This is all very well but this means I'm £100 down this week - how can I ever survive?
