If it's just numbers then canvas for me, but the best quality customers are always reccomendations

i think the biggest problem with leaflets its either working or its not 1 style or set up of leaflet might work where the other just doesn't which is still to this day after the many years we have been in business still isnt 100% perfect tried so many different styles

When starting from scratch, canvassing did it for me. Once my name became sufficiently well known, I found that nearly all my new work has come to me via word of mouth recommendation or walk-ups.

I don't advertise per se, although I have a Facebook page which may generate a small number of new customers.

On an average week I pick up 1-2 new customers.

Ive found in past, very little comes back from posting leaflets. So I dont bother.
My rounds have increased (residential) due to word of mouth. However if such, takes me to a new area (say a friend of a customer) after I have cleaned the new customers windows, I will then canvass the street. By which, if any neighbours were in, no doubt they would have seen me. Which supports my sales pitch.

my round is self generating.all i have to do is go out and clean.i get seen and get approached or an existing customer will ask me or pass my number on.

i have lost a few customers lately(prob about 5-6 jobs) due to moving/cancelled,etc but i know there will always be another potential new job just around the corner.

enquiries increase during spring/summer and i pick up more add on jobs usually from existing window cleaning customers.

i do post the odd leaflet here and there and even a bit of canvassing(usually properties i used to clean for the last owner/tenant)but thats it really.
price higher/work harder!

Back in the day when we used to do traditional window cleaning we always use to pick up lots of clients in same road but since pure water not so many come out and many we speak to the answer always is we had a window cleaner but windows were always spotty etc once you have given them reasons why it happens they say no thanks 1 bad experience does pit clients off sadly

When I started properly 5 years ago I canvassed all the time. Canvass, do the work, canvass, do the work and so on...

I tried leaflets just over a year ago which was ok, not great. But then I realise that you need to drop thousands and thousands, I was going to go down a certain route business wise but changed my mind.

Now I get recommendations, people see the van about. The best customer we have spends a lot of money with us a year and that was from knocking on the 'gates'  :)

So now I canvass around existing work and get them to sign up to direct debit.

That's how I did it. Working and earning straight away, as well as advertising yourself to your customers' neighbours.

Even if you get a few 'no's' the first time, once you have been round a few times and demonstrate how reliable you are and your customers tell them how pleased they are with your work, some soon see the error of their ways and ask to be put on your books!
