That's too much
« on: December 15, 2015, 06:50:19 pm »
You know the types that call...How much to do bla bla and insist on a price over the phone and you have no idea of what the job is going to be like. Well I had one today and after playing her along for a bit she said "oh that's too much"  and then she put the phone down... How very rude.  What tickled me was the estimate I gave was quite resonable to what I would normally charge.

What I was about to say before I was ruddly interupted (cut off) was "OK then best try to borrow a ladder and risk your own neck to try unblock yer guttering & downspout yourself. Then you will see why people don't do it for bugger all" but never got the chance more the pitty... Some people  ;D

That's exactly why I pass gutter cleaning on to somebody else! Not worth falling and breaking something, they won't pay your bills while your out of action. Stick to window cleaning, preferably from the ground with one of them pole thingys!

I don't mind gutter clearing but I'm not going to do it for next to bugger all that's for sure.
Most  of the time I tend to use a guttervac so only use ladders when needed.

I have one of those window cleaning pole thingys as well as like you say custy's will not pay your bills if you get hurt   ;)

IME people who insist on a quote over the phone just want the job done on the cheap. When they say they've got 8 windows , they almost invariably have a few more! Nowadays, I always say that I need to look at the job first. I tell them that I don't charge for going to have a look, then leave it up to them to decide, but it's all done politely and professionally.

Being diplomatic is being able to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip.
