40/40 ro flushing ?
« on: October 19, 2015, 08:45:24 pm »
New 40/40 membrane fitted about 6 months ago bought from gaps. Its the low pressure one rated at 80 psi. TDS started at 25 when new but now creeping up to 35. Should i be flushing it ?

Yes you need to open up the valve or tap and run all the water to waste I usually do this for about 5 to 10mins
before making pure.
If you haven't done a flush for 6 months I would flush it for about half an hour.

If tds started at 25 i would invest in a water booster pump as tds on one of them new should be 6-8, sounds like you have poor water pressure. I had the hf5 and still needed a pump as tds soon crept up.

Yes, I get 12 from a Merlin with tap water TDS at 290.

No need to flush,  I haven't flushed mine for getting on for 2 years.
The membrane is 5 years old and brings 375 tads down to 18.

[/quote]I don't have a 4040 but my undertanding is you should get 5% or less, so under 9 output. Something's not right. The pump may be underpowered? I use one of these on my Merlin:  http://www.tool-net.co.uk/p-366778/clarke-cbm240-1%E2%80%9D-multi-stage-water-pump-240v.html

But I'm just guessing.

Sometimes the output TDS can drop after a pre-filter change.
I'm still getting 008 TDS from mine after a few years at 40psi or slightly less.  The input TDS is less though  around 200.
No pump.

You don't need to flush. I did it for years but June at gapswater said not to bother as it makes no difference. I gave twin hf5. In 250  ish out 3-4. Don't even bother buying resin anymore!
