300 would be fine, would not exceed safe limit

I think the Berlingo has a payload of around 600kg a litre of water weighs 1kg so you will have 300kg to play with
which as windowswashed has said should be fine.

1.6hdi (75) 625 kilo (90) 800 kilo

u need to check the vin plate on the van as there all different

First series Berlingo's

1.9d were both 600 and 800 in LX version
2.0 hdi were both 600 and 800 in LX version.

Most popular was the 600 as it was cheaper when new.

I don't think there are many 1.8d 1998/1999 Berlingo's about, but the 600 didn't have power steering as standard, so something to watch out for.
I think there was one on Ebay a couple of weeks ago for £590 that had low mileage, in pretty good condition, but would need further questions asked. (The early 800 kgs did have power steering as standard, but there weren't many about.)

I'm sure the current 1.6 hdi version is a 850kg payload.

300 would be fine but found that tank size too small for a busy day. Likewise soon found out my berlingo van was not an ideal van size either to work from. Trying to work from a small van I found always had to be a compromise and done my head in to be honest.

Thanks a lot for your advice. Starting up soon so just getting as much info as I can. Most my work is trad , so really just using the van to get extra .

When starting out I was told to allow about 20 to 25ltrs per average property but find I can use less in most average semi's so
even on the odd occasion when I do a full day 300lts more than covers it, but like you say its not going bankrupt you to trad the
odd ground floor, you will use more when learning the ropes though and I wouldn't recommend skimping on water at that stage
plus it is nice to have the extra if needed.

Wfp opens up a whole new revenue stream so my advice is to get a decent size van and at least a 650 wfp van mount from the get go so to speak.

I know firsthand once you get into wfp work you will hardly ever do trad anymore and will soon outgrow a small van with a small size tank. Trust me as what tends to happen you will get asked to do more add-ons, much larger buildings like blocks of flats, schools, colleges etc and large commercial stuff too then find you are screwed water wise.  Don't mess about with a small van if you want to be able to tackle most jobs and start earning some real dosh using wfp along the way.

i use to have an old partner 1.9d and that had a 400 litre upright tank, it was pretty sluggish without having a turbo but in no way didnt feel like it was overloaded with a full tank, i got to a point where i needed a bigger tank so bought a transit and stuck a 650 in it i know i always have a couple of hundred litres spare every day and im not worrying about my water, plus i have a bit more room in the back of the van, not much though as i bought a crewcab but the van doubles up as a second car now lol

Grippatank  have a calculator where you enter your registration number and it gives you your payload.

I have a belingo on my fleet. Never had any issues with my 300ltr tank. You may find heavy on suspension parts though, track rod ends extra for MOT. But a small price to pay. Don't go too fast over the speed humps!
