VERIFICATION ASSOCIATION?
« on: April 26, 2006, 12:46:31 am »
I`ve had these people on today verifing 1 in 4 cc for a directory which is tied in with www.trades.com [1.2 million hits/week] They claim to have published in essex and kent and are about to finish the London book, now there canvasing Manchester.£500 for 18 months,I told them I`d verify them on the forum first and get back to them. All there basically doing is telling people that you`re business is legitimate, and claim that based on customer satisfaction your name is either kept or deleted from there listing.Has anyone signed up, and would the customer really care?????

Having looked at the web site ::)
I would keep a very tight hold on my money,
it looks and sounds very Simula to a lot of other scemes that just take money and don't actually do anything.

They keep phoneing me - so I have told them to get lost.  I asked 4 times to have my number removed from their list, and they never did it.  I wouldn't touch them.  Rather they should be shut down for malpractice.

I wonder if they are in any Verification Associations??
Trying really hard to clean all of East London!

Some one else after your hard earned

This forum has really opened up recently with a lot of ideas being posted by established c/c's giving good advice

Take a look at the General cleaning board, where they're a really friendly, chatty bunch, with a number of inspirational ladies emerging

They work for much less than c/c's but some are clearly doing well

Stick to your basic marketing mix and forget all these "extras". They are money down the drain as are avverts in menus, supermarkets, one off specials in newspapers, etc etc.

I got a call last week and told them that I was on my local trading standards approved list and he put the phone down on me!

Nice people to do buisness with, trust them after that?

My Advice is steer clear. We went onto 118trades.com 2 months ago and we have had 1 referal to our website and no business. Learnt a costly lesson. Keep hold of your money. Wish I had thought to ask the forum like you did.  :)

Check out this link:

 http://www.bbc.co.uk/consumer/tv_and_radio/watchdog/reports/homes/homes_20060321_2.shtml

I had a close shave with 118, they even put my details on their site without permission and sent me an invoice for £599+VAT.  :o

I immediatley returned it via fax stating it was not a valid contract (as I had not even received the information they had promised to send - i had agreed to consider their offer).  They called me a couple of weeks ago trying to claim there was a contract but after a swift sharp retort by myself they accepted my version of events and removed me from their records. ::)

Or so I thought....then this week I got a call from the "Verification Association" >:(...same sales pitch...told them not interested.

All these internet directories are a total scam.

If they approach you..run..runaway  ;D

everyone keep far away from this company. trading standards know of many problems with them.
I signed up but then cancelled after checking them out.
had agresive phone calls, sales men who wont go away, even phoning back several times after i hung up. i may have lost my deposit? but worth it in long run.

dan corby was arrested on monday he's the director of 118-trades.com there is an investigation underway about dealings into money deception check out www.grumbletext.com the long and short of his operation is a good idea at first but greed has set in. the advertising with them needs to be checked on constantly there follow up service is crap!! only benifit with there package is they give you a free phone no. with no bills. bonus for trade seeking you out in other adverts as free phone generates more jobs so the fee for the ad covers  the cost for call's in my case great way of pulling in new customer's i got a 18 month package for £499.00+vat. call's so far £££££. I'm quids in so far.
but i will be watching watchdog next week for the follow up service could find they shut him down, slap his wrist, or fine him big.
