Is it at the bottom of the section, where all the strain is? Is it a Gardiner pole?

It's just below the top strengthened band on an Extreme pole.

I've had it ages. Just took me by surprise - I didn't know it was split before.

I take the pole apart and rinse each section individually so they can dry out then spray each section with Ptfe

All my extreme sections that broke went there bar one. I've actually manages to make an 18 foot pole out of repaired extreme sections. Light as anything and now my first choice pole.

How did you repair it?
Create a new raised area at the top of the pole with carbon fibre tape and epoxy. Its a bit of a learning curve but I can repair a section in about 10 minutes now. Easy composites has everything you need. The 232g plain weave IG good for new raised sections and the 80g spread tow ribbon is great when the clamps start to slip. A wrap of the spread tow is just the right thickness to allow the clamp to grip the pole again.

The section in the PIC would be fine with a wrap of the spread tow overlapped. I stood on my section 6 in the van last week. I crushed it and it looked very similar to your section. I repaired it with epoxy resin and the 80g spread tow ribbon. Its solid as a rock now.

Sounds good davids3511 .

I have lacquered my poles and that's as far as I've gone .
With cracked sections I saw them off .

My 30 ft slx is probably 28-29 ft .
But I have had it awhile .

You can get away with chopping bits off an SLX but with an extreme its harder because of the clamping areas. I think Alex screwed up by not extending the top raised section by another 4 inches. It would have given the pole strength at yhe point most pressure is on it. I always struggled getting decent laquer which wouldn't flake off.

rather a long way off  :)

New section coming today due to Gardiners excellent service. Pole is probably a couple of years old now.

The top end of the newer poles is extended.  There are two metal bands at either end of a raised section that looks to be made of some kind of resin that is as thick as the raised metal bands.

I'm off out now but I'll try to post a pic later.

Well, I noticed the split around 11am yesterday and phoned Gardiners from my mobile. New section arrived today. Brilliant service - can't see one coming from China that quick or even Brodex.

I think I'll be sticking with Gardiners for a while yet.  :)
