Gardiners SLX
« on: January 12, 2015, 11:00:06 am »
18 footer arrived in the post this morning. I bought it mainly as my gutter cleaning pole as my stock of Extreme poles is going down and Dazmond could have more than me  :o

Anyway, I've not used an SLX since the Extremes were invented - what a great pole the SLX is! Excellent value for money.

At 18ft its hard to beat Dave but anything above 22ft and you will wish you had your xtreme back.
But I would say you wont beat the SLX for the price.

Dave , do you reckon it will be long enough for most of the run of the mill domestic, I use a chopped down clx27 which extended is the same length as  the  slx 18 , the slx 18 is on my shopping list but not sure if I should go for the 22 , due to my unplanned holiday I need to keep weight and strain to a minimum if I return to work .

Should do most domestics although I'd probably go for the 22 myself.

Thats what I was thinking , like  I say I use  the chopped clx  and it does pretty much all my domestic , but having said that the 22 is only 23 quid more , so I could take a section off  and keep it in the van , plus I do have a newish untampered clx 27 in the van anyway , whats your thoughts now ?

rich if i were you id just buy an xtreme pole.they are much lighter.surely you can  afford one?you ve been in this game for a long time like me and work hard.treat yourself.you deserve it mate.

good luck with your recovery.

an extreme 25 is the perfect pole for domestics.very light and you can reach all the awkward windows over connys/extensions and 3 storey without having to go back to the van for another pole.

i do have an slx 22 as an emergency back up pole but it comes up short quite a bit on some my work but still a good pole overall just heavier than the extremes and not as rigid.
price higher/work harder!

How did I know you would say the extreme word Daz   ;D
The thing that puts me off is that they only clamp half and full position , am I right in saying that the 18 foot clamps up anywhere ?
If that is the case then extreme 18 could be worth it for me .

I have Extremes too but they aren't exactly value for money at around twenty feet. If you can afford it then yes buy an Extreme but that SLX 18 with an Extreme brush is superb value. As would be the 22.

Going down the same boat. I have a SLX 25 an 1 extension. The extension is only used on a set of 3 houses. Most job I just use the first 2 sections. I am thinking down the 18 SLX line and leave my 25 with the extension on. 18 is much lighter and would use mostly first 3 sections. Lightness is an issue with my duff elbows. I cant justify the extra £ for an extreme. I may even go ex ceed with Gardiner extreme brush. Un desided

each to there own but i only use 2 poles usually.

my extreme 25 gets used for most window cleaning jobs day in/day out and add ons(f/s/g and conny roof cleaning).it gets hammered.

anything higher then my extreme 47 gets used.great high level pole.

an 18ft or 22 ft pole would come up short on lots of my regular work meaning id have to go back to the van for another pole wasting time so a 25 ft extreme is a perfect all arounder and light enough to use all day on most jobs for me.

price higher/work harder!

a 40ft SLX is ok for straight up windows richard but a nightmare at angles fully extended(velux and solar panels on roofs).far too much bend making it very difficult to clean effectively.the pole catches on the gutters even if you hold the pole above your head.
price higher/work harder!

I've got an slx39 and it's actually very whippy, like using a clx22 fully extended!!
I don't mind though as it's not an everyday pole just for those extra high windows.

The odd clamping positions on the extreme sounds a bit odd, but after using one for a while you honestly don't notice.
