Cheers Ken  ;)

Are there any plans for anything happening in Scotland as all events , exhibitions, ect  seem to happen south of the border . There is a lot of cc up here and probably  find it hard to get to these, not to mention the cost of travel and over night stays.

Kind regards

tihson

I have had thoughts of taking the Technical Roadshow up into Scotland, and it will, no doubt, happen at some time. However, as a new Director of the NCCA and without experience or a working knowledge of previous events, I have had to enquire of events past.  The news hasn't been good.  Whether it has been down to numbers of members, or event location, or publicity or what I don't know, but there have been some disasterous experiences for the NCCA north of the border.  There have been events that had to be cancelled too.

Apparently, there has previously been the odd close calls in Northern Ireland too. This hasn't put me off organising far off events, if anything it's made me more determined to succeed.  The Technical Roadshow at Ulster Carpets closely follows a format which has been very successful in England on two occasions in the last six months.  But the Ulster event has only just about covered it's costs. A tour of a carpet factory is not only educational, but a fascinating priviledge too.  So I raise the question: Is apathy rife within our industry?  For these events to continue, we have to see that there is a need, otherwise we and our Associates will be throwing good money away.

Any views or suggestions, especially from our Irish and Scottish colleagues would be welcome.

Safe and happy cleaning :)

Hi Ken

Today i received an invite from Altec to attend a Free Discovery Day with Robert Saunders and Paul Pearse, which is fine if you can travel there and back the same day and avoid the expense of over night stays and  then their  free day turns into a few hundred quid. I attended the NCCA course last year i am hoping to go on a leather course next month yet again down south so any chance of going to any other event down south is pretty slim . First and foremost we are trying to earn a living and to try and attend all or some events is dam near impossible, if they are all down south. We have associate members who have suppliers here that could organise something or how about having a Scottish and Irish Representative for the NCCA who could be more local and be able to assist in the organising of such events on a smaller scale even if it was just a get together to meet other members in our own area. As there is only 27 members in Scotland  could we organise our own trip to a Scottish Carpet Manufacturer  stating we are members of the NCCA  or would we need to let you know names and numbers and let you make the arrangements.

Kind Regards

tihson

Hi Tihson

Leicester is not down south, Take a blo.dy long time to get their when you live in the real south, M25 M1 should I say anymore. It has taken over 4 hrs to get there and its only 120miles, on a Friday it is even worse

Wish they would move down south as It would be so much better for getting to the courses.

Understand your problem in Scotland though.

As an NCCA Member, have you considered, maybe along with one or two trusted colleagues, organising an NCCA Branch Meeting?  You will have received a flyer with this months copy of Newslink to give you an idea.  They're usually evening affairs in a room at a local pub or club.  Non Members can be invited too.  If you're interested in organising this sort of thing, drop me a line at ken@ncca.co.uk or by PM. along with your name, home town/district and contact number and then I may be able to find a more senior member in your area who can provide support and advice.

Safe and happy cleaning :)
