Securing reel to floor
« on: October 10, 2014, 03:45:13 pm »
How are you guys doing this please?
Would like to have secure enough to drive round and use, but no drama if taken out.
Thanks

When I change my van I'll be using pipe clips. Should be secure enough and your able to open them as well. Probably not suitable to take the reel out every hour though.

I Use saddle pipe fittings, get stainless steel ones, they will hold the reel securely in place, use some tech screws to secure them in place.

Screwfix, or shop online, type them into Google, should be loads about, they are very good!

The reel can be removed with a cordless drill, I keep mine in the van at all times with a hose guide right by the door, so no need to ever move it in or out the van, but if you needed to then a cordless drill will do.

We use these: http://www.kiowa.co.uk/pipe-clamps?filter=00145100,00006530

Secured to a board that fits around the back of the wheel arches so it won't move in an accident but it easy to lift out when the space is needed.  Takes about ten seconds to get the reels out.

My van floor is ply lined. I added another piece of 2'x2' ish ply on top and screwed that down all around with long screws, then I screwed the reel down using 22mm pipe fittings and long screws. The reel is rock steady as the double thickness ply along with long screws all round it keeps it secure.
We look at them, they look through them.

this is what ive done mate.a piece of plywood on van floor with rubber mats stapled to it then i simply screwed a few pieces of wood down around the base of the reel and then used a zip tie on top of reel to side of van to stop it falling over!works a treat!reel never moves!its a heavy reel with 8mm thermobore plus hose.works well. ;)
price higher/work harder!

i forgot to say i leave my reel in the van all the time when working.if i ever need to take reel out though for whatever reason  ill simply cut the cable tie, disconnect and take out.i have loads of cable ties so no biggie securing it again when i put it back in. :)

The Italian reel I have comes with metal wall clips but when attached to the floor it can slip sideways when reeling in the hose so you need something else to support it as above.

i bolted my reel to a piece of wood and screwed it to van floor , its awkward if the job is in front of van but i just make sure i park facing the right way and its so much easier now !
