That feeling when you miss out on a contract...
« on: August 27, 2014, 03:04:37 pm »
Was cleaning a house near a building site today and i have been keeping my eye on the progress to see when to leaflet. However they are 35 bungalow/static caravans getting fitted on the land, so i gathered they would be a maintenance clean option.
Today i went over to the site manager and asked "hi there just wondering if there will be a window cleaning service needed for this site" he replied " sorry mate i tried to catch you last time but missed you, and since then we have got another cleaning service"
We discussed a price i can do it for and he looked suprised and Asked for a card just incase they needed me.
I hope i haven't just undercut someone because its usually me that gets undercut!! So dont know how someone is charging more.

you gave your price without knowing the other guys price. So you didn't go in trying to under cut him

I suppose so but i cant see how someone can be more expensive than me, usually i charge more than 90% of others around the area

Doesn't really matter what the guy the site manager approached was charging. It was accepted and unless he louses up the job, it's his now.

There will be other days, other new contracts.

How do you know you were cheaper, you didn't actually say in the post.

You may, or may not be cheaper than others in the area, but unless you knew his price yours was a straight quote. And assuming you are cheaper you still didn't get the work.

The most likely senario was the builders were getting desperate for someone and eventually the project manager just picked a number from yell, or Google, the price came inside the budget ( plus maybe a freebee here and there ) so job done, windows get cleaned no more hassle for the project manager.

You know your price is cheaper by the reactions of the site manager lol

Yeah, never undercut is a good motto! I always like to find out what other windys charge, so i can charge more, especially for a contract !!
I'd love to know in more detail how some of your logic works, you actually price so your competition keeps the job?
Meanwhile, back on planet earth if i can get a job by charging a tenner less, then i'll probably charge a tenner less. Simple.
Mind you, i'm not debating what to pay my staff or what rate i need to pay two men in a van, i just go do it myself !!!
