well that was a waste of time
« on: December 20, 2004, 09:42:17 am »
just been to clean a supermarket / department store

arrived on site 7.30, car said it was - 2 C

sat in car for a while, it got a little warmer, 0

got kit out, thought, while my brush head thaws out a little, i will mop the insides/outsides of the doors, it froze, like a good un, so i go into the store, by some de-icer screen wash :) ( i think i am being smart, put it in neat, still freezes, so thats 2 sheets of ice :(

i think, the pure water looks ok, so i set up all the trolley, turn on the pump, that must still be frozen :(

i pack up and come home

Temp in my area was supposed to be down to minus 5!
I went out and chiseled my way into the car, the locks were froze, couldn't open the doors or the boot :-[
I had the foresite to cover all my water containers, hose & reel, pump and brush with thick blankets, worked cos nothing was frozen ;D
All my accounts so far today have been shops and offices in the high street, large plate glass, lots of water, and lots running all over the pavement.
Approched first account with more than a little trepidation.......................all groundless, nothing froze except my nose ;D
What can I say, so far so good ;)
Pre WFP, in winters long ago I had horrendous experiences with the water freezing on the glass, in my BOAB, on my leg, on the squeegee :'( Thank god the winters are now so much milder, hope they stay that way too ;D

Same story,

Car frozen
Water 1/2 inch of ice on the top of each 25L container
Pump, thought it was frozen, may ahve been but a fuse blew...

Then my connector from my battery to pump broke!! Waht a day.

Cold, but no water frozen on windows, florr ect. Just made a funny noise pulling my trolley down the road with water and broken ice rattling around in my containers.

Sounded kinda like sleigh bells!!!!  :P

I have an electric heater in the van over night, keeps van frost free.
Last year I bought a 3kw emersion heater suitable for pure water, I place it in the 1000litre tank in garage to warm up the water, keeps garage warm and when transfered into van, keeps van warm and stops hoses from freezing. Haven't used it this year yet,as it is a bit expensive to use alot. Got it from Andrew's Water Treatment

how long does the water stay waerm in the van for ??????

as it would be fairly straight forward to fit a copper hot water cylinder in the garage for the hot water for the really cold days (cost of that would be under 200 notes) , BUT you dont always know when it will be cold (sure yes we knew it was going to be a cold un, they said so on the weather  ::) )

though it wouldnt have helped with me today, as the water i used for the windows was HOT, i got it out of the shops toilet only 5 mins before i put it on the window :(
it was also freezing like a good un on the floor :(

hi there,

we arrived on site this morning at 7.30am, very cold. SOLUTION gave them all an extra sweater to wear, and told them to move faster.  RESULT harmony in the workforce.

they've only got another three days to go then they are all off till the new year. I pay their wages, so just expect a little bit of grit and determination when the weather gets a little bit cold.

regards

Did nothing today. Couldn't get car doors open. Used a whole can of defroster without success. Went back indoors. Phoned all todays customers and explained it. Re booked them all. Had 4 slices of toast and marmalade with a cuppa. Turned up heater in bedroom and had a lovely 2 hour doze.

Wow. Was a good day for me but still need to catch up on missed work.

Hi,

Trouble with ordinary domestic immersion heaters, or with copper cylinders, etc, is that will quickly be attacked by your aggressive purified water.  Materials used MUST be resistant to attack, and are therefore expensive.  Our specially designed stainless steel 230volt 3KW over-the-top immersion heater does the job beautifully, see www.andwat.co.uk

Rosskesava - are you a pole user or still on ladders?

Using ladders. We have plans for a WFP system some time next year. I hope.

Just thought I'd do a lazerus on this one - something to look forward to this winter - some points relevant, but love the "aggressive water" post about immersion heaters.
