cony price with windows
« on: July 09, 2014, 09:19:50 pm »
I cant put this in prospective.
You charge say £60 for a conservatory cleaning...fine
You charge say £8 for a house windows and frames
Now if this house has a cony on you charge say £2 more, yet you clean all but the roof anyway. So do we get £58 for the roof

 ???

Yes, £58 is a good price for an average size conny roof. It will take about an hour with the gutters and side windows.
We look at them, they look through them.

Look at it for price for the year.
A conservatory roof may only get done twice a year. When its minging. And will take ages longer than a splash & dash on the windows.
12 window cleans per year-£120
2 conservatory cleans per year-£120.
Would you charge the same price if the roof was done every time?
I didn't use to. (sic)

dont forget alot of conservatory roofs are quite green, if you got window frames or glass that green you'd charge more than the average window clean price especially if there one off's.
i used to hate con roofs but now i got them nailed down and enjoy them, theres a sense of self satisfaction when you stand back and look when finished and the custies face when they see it and say they cant believe how bright it is etc.
priceless,,,,,,well not really £50-£80 please

Don't forget when pricing a full conservatory clean you will also be cleaning the gutters, downspouts
and roof finials.
You also need to charge more because they aren't a regular clean.
Duncan charging £2 extra for a conservatory is not enough

A family member pays his traditional cleaner £6. Bungalow with big cony. I did it all for him. poope was dripping all over the place. Loads of plastic panels above etc. Looked a treat after. He asked me how much if I did it every month. I said £8 giving him it cheap. He wasn't happy. Traditional guys round here are doing it for peanuts. Yet tonight I was asked for a quote. I said £8. Easy job. He nearly bit my hand off. Did it there and then. He gave me a £10 and said cracking job. Ill try asking £3 extra and see how they react

Duncan these guys who are charging peanuts wont be cleaning frames or sills and I guarantee wont they wont
doing a quality clean even on the glass.
I get from reading your post that you take pride in your work and want to achieve the best results possible.
You just cant do this charging £2 and £3 for things like a conservatory and make a decent living.

Duncan still not 100% as to what you are talking about are you cleaning the entire conservatory including all the roof panels and guttering ,

Or are you just charging an extra £2.00 for a house with a conny which should be £6.00 just for a small conny on a regular clean , Cleaning the frames and glass as per the the house windows .

Either way you are charging peanuts , Surely this has got to be another wind up . Mike

Also, anyone could clean their own windows, maybe not very well but they could do it. Customers do not have the tools or know how with regards cleaning a conservatory roof. I always price in mind that it's a specialist job, therefore charge a lot because they cannot do it themselves.

We did one not long ago, two of us took just over 2 hours, £270. It took a bit of selling prior but the customer was so impressed and commented on how professional and how hard we worked and they were over the moon, they will now have it done at least once per year, and after the first clean it will be a lot easier. With virosol and decent poles it was easy to clean but it was priced with the customers view of getting it clean in mind.

If we all thought like this then we wouldn't get people saying 'Oh but my last window cleaner only charged an extra tenner' 'Yeah look at the state of it love'.

Unfortunately Tom not everybody would get them prices hard sell or not.
I also know a lot of people who clean their own conservatory roofs so its far from a specialist job.
Plenty of conservatory cleaning kits on Ebay.
Put it this way if your earning £400 for a full weeks work your certainly going to laugh at a window cleaner
who's looking £270 for 4 hours.

exactly. The max you get away with for conys round here is £60. Most struggle to get £50. Northern people and tight with money, earn less and work harder. If you charge too much, you don't get the job.
Had this when plastering. Price high and you got selective jobs. 80% wont pay. Enough work from the 20% and your laughing. Same with windows I guess.

I would say it would be the same in my area Duncan around the £60 mark even then you
wouldn't get a lot of them at that price.
That's the reason I don't do many.
Its not that northern people are tight with money its just that the better paid jobs tend to be in the south.
If people have a few quid more in their budget then they don't mind paying a bit more for things like
having their windows cleaned.
I'm saying a few quid more Duncan I'm not talking about paying a cleaner more than a Doctor as some of the
willy wavers would want you to believe.
But then you have to put things into perspective I'm living in a house that would take me 1000 years to pay off
if it was in London.
