van mounted hose reels
« on: May 11, 2014, 09:21:10 pm »
Those of you that have them, do you find it a problem if the direction of the job isn't facing the reel, Do you have them fitted so you can somehow work with the doors closed?    Pics would be helpful.

Cheers  ;)

90% of our jobs we can get facing the work! for those that require 90deg turns or greater we usually unreel by the van then walk to job, you soon get to know how much to pull off for the distance your walking.

Get solid sided reels ie... Pure freedom or the redashe reels,  as these unwind better if going at an angle

If you want pics I'll try to get some tomorrow

I have a simple fixed hose reel, but work with back  door unlocked.
In a few months I will be getting  a Transit custom and installing another fixed reel but with a roller guide fitted to the van floor near the rear doors and running the hose through a further roller guide just below the bumper.
Then I will be able to lock everything up
A bloke called Tim mentioned the idea a couple of times on this forum
Mick,  I am in Cheshire, are you close to me? I seem to remember you being local to me.
I can email some pics to you if you need them.
I don't know how to upload here ;D

i dont have mine fixed but it doesnt come out of the van!its secured by a rojak ladderstopper! ;D

if i want to lock my van i simply pull out enough hose for the job in hand and lock the doors with the hose sticking out the bottom of the van door.same if the job is in a different direction to the hose reel.
price higher/work harder!

trees / lamp posts etc. come in handy to route the hose around when reeling out if you are facing a different direction to the house you are cleaning, I use microbore and find I can lock the vans doors on it quite easily without restricting the flow.

I've just upgraded to the twin pure freedom one, its brilliant, i close the doors on the hoses and never had an issue, the double stack is brilliant for space saving

Can you reel both in together with the double stack reel

no unless you put a link between them, but to be honest we never have the two reels out the same length so it would be kinda pointless and restrict the way we work.

bolt the reel to a bit on 8 ml ply add 2x1 on the bottom for feet , paint with pr. coat , job done , the weight of the reel and hose will keep it in place and you can remove or turn the reel when you want in seconds

So would it be fair to say that you save space but lose time per job reeling in as only one reel can be wound in at a time ?

no not at all, how often when working with two men do both finish at the same time? we very very rarely do and if we do then one winds in whilst the other puts the poles away or collects money

If done correctly you should both finish at the same time 99% of the time. .

No not at all, if you can show me how two lads can leave a van and clean up to 100 metres from the van on different size houses, chat to customers, collect money, drop cards off etc etc and THEN manage to reel in at the same time then I will come round and clean your entire round for the next year for free
