I use the 10 inch 5 micron which are more than enough and cheaper.
That reminds me I haven't changed them in well over a year.

I think I am right in saying that if you are using the Fiberdyne filter you don't need a sediment or any other filter the fiberdyne is an all in one filter.

Yes your are right.

I need to still use a sediment filter as our water is full of grit. I checked this afternoon and we have processed 17k litres through the prefilters since the last change and the water id severly restricted already. Again, 20k of water is about the limit.

The 20" Fiberdyne filter lasts twice as long as the 10" and costs twice the price. The disadvantage with 10" prefilters is that you have to change them twice as often. No cost advantage or disadvantage.

I have a digital water meter that counts the litres passing through the prefilters.

Personally I have always worried I have been replacing Carbon block filters way to late. So I have installed this water meter to keep a track of water usage. Carbon block prefilters should be replaced once their service life is finished - its not time related.

Now there are 3 of us drawing water, I have found that I can no longer keep a mental note of our actual water usage. If one of the lads fills up at lunch time, the IBC tank is usually refilled by the time I get back in the afternoon so have no idea if and when water is drawn.

We do manage to get through some water.

Tonight is a prime example of what happens.

The rule is that I fill my van in the evening, son fills his in the morning and son in law fills his sometime through the day.

He (SIL) decided to come in this evening at around 5 as he had no water left to start the day tomorrow. So he took around 350 liters and as I needed about 600 I decided I would fill up later this evening.

I've just filled up my van now (8.00pm) and the IBC tank was full. So had he come in at lunch time I wouldn't have known what he had taken.

I replaced my Fiberdyne filter on the 15th of January. I have processed 50k litres since then. I estimate that 22k of that is pure and the rest waste. I will have to replace my sediment filter shortly and then the next filter change after that will be a new Fiberdyne carbon block as well.

So for me replacing the carbon block (Fiberdyne) filter should be done every 3 months, considering the first month with the new CB filter we had limited water usuage because of the weather.

The one I am using is a test sample Digiflow 8000T.

It is similar to the unit Vyair sells

The only difference is the seperate flow meter which can be mounted either horizontally or vertically which I would prefer. My r/o is in a cabinet which is reasonably compact tso I found it difficult to find a horizontal place for it.
