Hey all

So I pull up to this house which is an 8-weekly for £13.00.  Reeled out and went round back to open gate.  Custy comes out and says 'Can you leave it this time'?.  'Oh right, ok' I said, 'is there any particular reason?'  'No' says he.  'I haven't upset you or anything?' I said jokingly.  'No, I just want you to skip it this time' he replied, and walked inside and closed the door.

So, as the title says, would you give a first strike or dump?

I have had a few like this and i dump them straight away. then the next time round the look on there faces when i say no because they messed me about last month priceless

How dare you tell the OP to dump this customer. The customer is ALWAYS right. They can decide when you clean their windows. Would you go to Tesco and expect the security guard to stop you going in because you went to Aldi last week?

I mean, when your gardener chappie comes by for the weekly grass cut in summer and you see him wheel his mower off his trailer and up the drive and you look down your nose and say the grass is short enough this week does he get his knickers in a twist? Of course not! He knows his place - and he's a skilled gardener not like us lot.

Just doff your cap, tug your forelock, bow low and back away.

how long as this guy been a customer, is he a good payer etc
If it is a long time and it has never happened maybe give him the benefit of the doubt
if none of the above apply and he is a relatively newer customer then dismiss
the problem now tom is that he will dictate the frequency of cleans to you

Depends.
Where are you with your round?
Saturation point or a bit skint?
You can afford to lose them but if that extra few bob in your pocket will make the difference, go for strike 1.
Also, are they a one park job or do you do 2,3,4,5,6...? houses from the same park?
If multiple, keep em.

That's not a customer. It's a name on your list that's taking up time that you should be putting into getting real customers. This sort of thing tends not to happen very much when you have real customers. Get some more of those. HTH

I gave him a chance to give me a reason for skipping and he offered nothing so that was the main thing for me. 

My first instinct was to dump as I also really didn't like the way he responded - like I didn't even matter to his world - and if that's the case then, as mentioned, I'll concentrate on finding custies who do value my service. 

I'm good friends with another windie and he told me of a particularly nasty custie who one day shouted at him: 'get the f*ck out of my garden you c*nt'.  He took it on the chin and still cleans whereas I would have walked off on the spot.  I spent several years working in an environment where the custies thought it was ok to shout and threaten down the phone and I love this game because it gives me the freedom to choose who I work for.  Each to their own I suppose.

If it were me, when I started building my new run in 2011 I would have kept them as I needed to get whatever 'customers ' I could. As a result I got messed about all over the place. I put up with this until I had attracted enough proper customers for this not to be a daily problem. The tide has now turned, so if I get messed about today, I won't go back unless there is a genuine reason.

As I have become more established, I have found that better quality customers are coming my way, so eventually all my messers will be gone.

As Johnny B said however its always an ongoing problem as good customers can turn bad plus new customers if they turn out to be messeers .... Normally bin em straight off if costs me time
