Top edge of frames
« on: October 30, 2013, 06:20:50 pm »
At very top edge of windows where you cant see. How do yous all clean them? I find myself avoiding them lately especially where its close to plaster or brickwork. I suppose i dont want dirty drips coming from plaster of brickwork down unto windows. If i where to clean them i find it would be hard to get in at them as some are to close to top of window opening to give a good scrub and not get all dirt out. Another part of me thinks i should clean them as there is a risk of me or employee splashing water up there then getting dirty drips over glass Anybody else avoid them? All advice welcome. Thanks Wayne.

Best time of year is to do them now .so when custies come home it's dark and won't see as many faults.

I tend to pick one house a day to clean the tops , eventually you get them all done annually .?

I have a house behind me with this problem. Previous cleaners would leave the top of the frame as they couldn't get the brush onto it properly. The house owner always moaned about how poor wfp was and was continually on the look out for a trad cleaner.

I use a Gardiners Extreme brush which is narrower. Even although the previous cleaners were wfp, it took me a few goes at getting the top frame clean to stop streaks.

4 cleans in and they are now fine.

Thanks for reply Spruce. I got myself into a habbit of not cleaning them on most houses, just took on an employee and worried about him getting water up there. So do you clean top edge on every house??

Yes.

I'm careful not to go above top openers with a large glass panel underneath. I clean the top of those by hand - cloth with a Unger Fixiclamp occassionally when they get dirty. Also use a squeegee with a cloth drapped over it on my Unger Teleplus pole to clean this up. Doing this helps to prevent streaks down the glass.

However if I have numerous customers in the area I may wash the whole window and go back a couple of hours later and redo the bottom pane.

i always do 1 sweep over the top of the frames . it keeps on top of it without too much dirtyish water running down the glass.( tip given to me by british will )

Try putting a squeege on the end of extension pole place a damp rag over it and wipe across, we do this on all the tops means a couple of minutes longer but eliminates the run problem as you only clean to the top of the glass as the top is clean.

If i had to faff around with rags on end of brush on all these types of windows,

i think i'ed go back to ladders,

i have an a/adapter fitted, so i just wipe some frames with jets off, then clean the

bottom,

only on problem windows, because some windows, i can just wash everything all

together, and not get any smears, or spotting.
