Hi,
I was looking at a new Vauxhall Combo van. Is anybody using one of these? The payload is only 750kg. Would a 400 litre tank fit in this? Also a water heater & gutter vac etc or is a Vivaro a better bet?

You'd be alright with the issue of weight, but I dont know about space.

the vauxhall combo is a rebadged fiat doblo,

they come in either 750kg or 1000kg payloads, the maxi (lwb) is 1000kg payload and most of the swb are 750kg, however not all as there is a option to have the swb van upgraded to 1000kg payload from the factory, easy way to spot is all the 1000kg payload vans have 16" wheels,

i have one and its excellant, i have a custom made 600l tank with heater and it carrys it fine, depending on the shape of your tank you could fit a gutter vac in, the load bay inside a maxi is just as long as a swb vivaro just not as wide,

I looked at trafics but was put off by there poor build quality and stories of them falling to peices, and the doblo was cheaper and imo a better van.

The new Doblo/Combo with even a 750kg P/L will be fine

My old Doblo (1.3 suzuki turbo-diesel engine) on a 56 plate has a 736kg P/L and I ran it with a 400L for five years, then as a two man pulling a 200L trailer set up so 600L in all.

Still going strong; great little van.

is the suzuki engine the same as a cdti corsa engine, as i have the same van and the engine is the same as a corsa

I dont know how you can run a full time business from a small van,
upgrading all our vans to LWB hightops, as standard LWB are now to small ?

a full time sole trader could clean £300 day in day out from a fiat doblo thats £1500 a week, two men and i would say larger, i depends if your a business or a sole trader and how close your work is around your house.

the advantages are, a small van will give you 40-50mpg cheaper to buy in the first place

i have both, for staff big van every time, for sole use small van every day of the week

Thanks for the replies. Would 400 litres be plenty for a sole operator for 1 day or is 500 more sensible?  For 500 litres I have been told to get a Vivaro but its big if I don't need that size.

If you read his reply Scrimble has 600l in his doblo (same as combo) with a 1000kg payload lwb.

I have a 600l tank but on a normal day only use around 350-400l, i had the larger tank as i do some commercial jobs where i need lots more water so the van has the extra capacity when needed,

i also have another pump and controller so another reel can be added as an when needed, i wouldnt use it as a every day 2 man van i would say to go larger if thats what you need,

Looked at the Combo today.  On finance it works out £34 a month cheaper than a Vivaro. What would you do? Its not a lot more for a bigger van but then its not as easy to park. Oh I hate these decisions.

Think you could be wrong about parking, if parking is a big issue with you I suggest you test drive the Maxi LWB, the turning circle is absolute pants My transit is a lot easier to park.

Sounds sick but you van is actully quite sexy and nice.   I love the curves!
