Working in a boom lift tomorrow
« on: October 27, 2013, 01:44:24 pm »
I have a huge school job starting in the morning. Tops can only be done (properly) off a cherry picker due to forward think architect putting Bries soleil everywhere. Job was booked in weeks ago and boom lift ordered, Then the met office decided to throw a spanner in the works  ::)roll

I wouldn't go up in it.
They won't be clean when you're finished anyway.
If it's dry & windy it'll whip the soap around.
If it's wet & windy-even worse.
Postpone it.
I cleaned yesterday to have tomorrow doing paperwork. After a lie in.

Do NOT even think about doing it.

Simply you should of in Contract had a part which explains that you may charge more due to 'outside factors'  But depends if there is wind in that area of where your be working.

How long you got the boom on hire for?

I was only messing.

I have no intention of going up in it.

I will put all 6 of us on the insides and get them done in a day instead of 3. Then we will hit the outsides once the weather improves.

The problem you're going to have (assuming you're going ahead) is that your mewp will cut out in high winds.
Put too much weight in the basket or shake it about too much and they cut out.

Read the safe working speed for that specific cherry picker. Use an anemometer to check the wind speed (download the app). If the wind speed is over the limit, decicion is obvious

As I said above.  I have no intention of using the lift in high winds. I have allowed  plenty of time for the job which means we can be flexible. Besides it means we will clear up the insides on day one leaving me plenty of man power for the external stuff.

I just downloaded the anemometer app you suggested, quite impressive. I cant check it properly but it corresponds with what the met websites are saying the wind speeds are here at present. good call.
