Has anyone install one of these relays for second battery and which wire goes where. All help needed. Thanks,
12v is your live feed from the van/starter battery.
IGN is the activate feed which is coupled into the ignition. It can also be coupled into a cable that is only live when the ignition key is in the 'on' position. The most usual connection is the second feed wire to the warning light from your alternator.
6 - to + of leisure battery
4 - always on
2 - second terminal which is only activated when engine is running.
o/v - earth (chassis)
The leisure battery also needs to be earthed to the chassis.
Some cigarette lighters sockets could be used but it has to satisfy the criteria. You may also find that the positive wire that feeds the radio could also meet the criteria.
When connected to the alternator you are assured that the connection between the 2 batteries (Van/starter and leisure) will only be made when the engine is running.
Personally, I would rather use an intelligent SCR that this much simpler to wire up; one wire from the van battery to the SCR, one to the battery and another from the SLR to earth. I see this same company also advertises an intelligent relay.
