Ro water too high
« on: July 02, 2013, 08:54:13 am »
Hi,

Well , i have replaced membranes, filters, and i have really good water pressure... and my tap water before ro is 140 tds..... and i still cant get my water to go any lower than 0.06 tds

Its a ro man 300 gpd, quite old now but obviously evrything gets replaced and so it should still perform.

Any suggestions lads please.?

cheers. ;)

why cant you just get a 5lt di vessel with resin to polish it off..a bag of resin would last a couple of years at those readings

Hi Gazza,

Ro-man (and most other suppliers) quote their systems as removing between 95 and 98% of dissolved solids.

Your water starts at 140ppm

Removing 98% would make it 2.8ppm
        "       95%     "        "     " 7.0ppm

You are actually removing 95.7% so within the stated performance range.

I've found that no two sets of membranes will give the same results from new - my 40-40 gives different starting performances every time I change the membrane but provided I get within the 96-98% range I'm happy.

The last membrane I put in has lasted nearly 4 years and is just starting to reduce its rejection rate - I have a new membrane ready to fit but I'll be lucky if this one is as good as the one I'll be taking out.

Luck of the draw - some membranes perform better than others.

As p1w1 says, run the water through resin.  Personally I wouldn't bother, anything less than about 12 ppm is good enough for me :)

Thanks Ian,

Good advice as usual.
