Without meeting the fella no-one will really know.
The only possibility (and this may not be fair) is he might not like 'taking orders from a youth' but if he's applied for the job, met you, knows what the work is and still went for it-chances are he'll be fine.
Go with your gut. IME it's usually right.

I gave a 50 something a chance a few years back. He had been a HGV driver and had done blah blah blah, found out he was one of life's casualties.

I thought he was going to work out well, considering his age, teenage kid etc.

When I first met him he was positive, couldn't wait to start. After a few months it was " I don't feel well today or my wife's poorly , daughters

got this and that" and to top it all he was picking up jobs and not informing me.

When I looked into him more he had done the same to a previous window cleaner. If only I'd known then what I know now.

All part of life's rich and varied pattern I suppose.

It always amazes me. Had one bad experience with a old man now we will not touch. Very ageist. This job is fine for many older folk I am 64 years never done a labour job in my life and am doing just fine. Busy every day.

And another statement to say not a paedo, not gay, not racist, not a shirker and doesn't try to avoid cracks on the pavement.

i read somewhere that its a good idea to hire slowly but sack quickly and thats good advice .  yes you might be desperate because works piling up on you but slow down you move too fast  -
ask a few loaded questions "how tall are you ?"   im 6 foot  ,  hang on you look only 5 foot 9  ( lying already )

 "have you cleaned windows before?"
yes ,i did 3 years with  the roys group"
  "why did you leave "
it was last man in first man out when roy lost a contract

 lies ,all lies

Just don't take anyone with less than a first from Oxbridge.

But I do think that if you hire slow (as you said) you hopefully won't have to sack fast.

Not at all, I was explaining about a 50 something that I came across, he was just a bad egg, that's not to say I would not employ an older person.

Would have just been nice to have known what I now know as far as he was concerned.
