1&1 Website
« on: June 22, 2013, 11:12:42 pm »
Hi all

Thinking of building myself a website, has anyone used the site 1&1, if so, is it value for money, looking at the business template it's on offer at the moment, but only for the next 8 days.

Depends on the cost mate to a point in you are on a budget and you fell it offers you value for money then give it a go .

You wont get a great website unless you know what you are doing which makes a big difference with website builder sites ,

I used Yola which gave me a basic site and gave my business an  online presence but i never really gained any work from it . New website built by a web designer has made a massive difference and i got the hosting much cheaper . Mike

Don't do a 1&1 template  site from what i can remember they are very limited.

I would say get a wordpress site and choose a theme from themeforest.net

1 + 1 is easy to use and update however with experiance ive realised its an expensive way of doing it.

When my 12 months is up i will be swapping to host gator and learning wordpress as i think the websites are better however if u just need a simple web presence then 1 + 1 is ok

I use Wordpress for my site:

www.iconicwindowcleaning.co.uk

The template cost $55 from www.themeforest.net - It's the Sterling theme (same as Erith Window Cleaning).

I need to spend a bit more time adding pictures etc.. but it's simple to use once you learn the basics.

1&1 are decent for hosting - - but their sitebuilder & templates are rubbish.

Go for any of their linux packages that include FTP access (The £4.99 a month & above ones I think) and you'll be able to upload any template you want,.. personally I prefer the ones from templatemonster.com to the themeforest ones - they're built to much higher standards & include better source files, so are worth the small additional cost.

The only downside to 1&1 is their bespoke control panel interface,.. if you're used to a standard "cPanel" setup, then the 1&1 can take a lot of time, effort & head scratching to get used to - - I'm very experienced with web hosting & still occasionally have to resort to a google search to find where a specific feature is hidden in the 1&1 interface.

There are cheaper hosting options too, with all the same features,....
