Starting a small round
« on: June 16, 2013, 09:31:53 am »
I'm looking at starting a small round to generate around a week's work per month as an add to my existing business (carpet cleaning) and have a couple of questions:

On average how many houses can be cleaned per day?

I'm looking at a trolley system from Windowcleaningwarehouse which has 4 x 25lt drums, how many houses would 100 lts of water do? is this an o.k system, i'm looking at this one as i can load it on the van for when i need it and store it when not in use.

If you want to use wfp the first thing to do is buy a TDS Meter to check the hardness of your tap water, and then you can decide whether you need to also buy an RO to purfify water or if DI only is suitable.
Unless of course you already have a source to get/buy pure water from.
The other option is to just clean windows Trad from ladders.

Pure water usage depends on how much scrubbing/rinsing you do and the flow speed.

Some people here claiming they can do four 3 bed semis with conservatory, using a backpack (18 liters).

I personally use almost 100 liters for that.

hmmmm the rug doctor equivalent of a carpet cleaning machine  ;D

seriously though yes it can be done but will be slow and painful way of doing it ....... if you wanted to do it the easy way get yourself a small tank about 200 litres and this will be enough for about 8 to 10 normal sized houses a day or prob 4 to 5 1st cleans.

In a day you want to do minimum 15 and need 300 litres.would definately get a trolley and 10 to 15 water bottles.
Get a tank in your garden along with a minimum pumped 400 gpd plus ro.
Also get a di cannister and 2 or 3 gardiners poles.
Takings off all first cleans till march 7th 2014
October  total=  cleaned  extra per month
November = cleaned extra per month
Total £  so far.

Use a trailer on window cleaning days
With pump,  500l tank etc. Been doing wfp for 6 yrs. I use  2 litres  per  min.  That's with tap on belt.  300l waste of time

O.K thanks for you help guys, it is appreciated.

After thinking about what has been said and the fact that i am only looking to start a small round due to the fact that my carpet cleaning business is always quite at the end of the month i think that wfp may not be the best option for me and perhaps traditional is the way to go as i'm only looking at domestics, cheaper to get into and not as much gear to lug around so i won't have to unload my carpet gear etc, i know i could get a trailer as has been suggested but storage / parking is a problem for me at the moment, i had actually considered this and thought it might be the best option.

Now i am looking to build a round of approx 65 - 75 houses to do over a week doing up to 15 houses a day, obviously traditional uses a lot less water, do those of you who still do traditional use customers water or carry your own, i'm thinking some customers will be out and no out door tap available so will at least need to carry some water, what would be sufficient to clean up to 15 houses?

1 bucketful should do you a days cleaning.  i have my bucket sit inside a plastic recycling box so that any spills out of the bucket when im driving do not wreck my floor .

Why don't you build up a bungalow round, before I went wfp, I had an accident off a ladder years ago so I sold all my ladder work and targetted only bungalows, managed to pick up hundreds of them and had a whole round of them in the end. Easy work, good earners, no ladder needed, sweet as.
