Extreme 22" pole
« on: June 21, 2017, 09:01:55 pm »
Section 3 snapped today as I lent in to remove a pollen spot.
Had it a year so not too bad but at about £45 a month I'm wondering if I will replace it when a slx 18 is the same weight and harder wearing.
Am I just being tight?

If you don't use the extra four feet then it makes sense.

I've always found the 22 covers 95% and the 18 covers about 80%.
I will have to get the 30' er out a bit more often

I'd say it's strange for it to snap when cleaning a pollen spot!
Closing windows and the like, yeah, more likely to snap or crack a section. I've had my Xtreme a while now and it's been solid.
It might be worth getting in touch with Gardiners and getting their viewpoint. See what they say.

Maybe. I use the tubeless set up so the first couple of inches is not used, it's taped off. The difference between the unused bit and the worn bit is staggering, it's paper thin

TBH i got sick of snapping xtreme sections in normal use too.3 sections on 2 xtreme poles in the space of a few months so ive gone back to SLXs for my main day to day pole and keep the xtreme poles for work over 25 ft.
price higher/work harder!

I found I was having to go back the vehicle to grab a longer pole a little too often so moved on to the Xtreme 22 when I broke my SLX18. So far I like it very much but don't know how I'll feel in another years time as it's only 6 months old.

Buy the SLX 18 and also replace the broken extreme section 3 with a new SLX section 3, then you have an 18 footer for most jobs and a 22 footer in the van should you need it.

i need a 25 footer as my main pole so back to the SLX.ive got used to the extra weight and bend now but you still cant beat an xtreme for ease of use.i mainly use xtreme and ultimate brushes with the SLX which helps but if i use a standard SL brush(which i do for some larger jobs)i certainly feel the difference.

its a fine balance between weight ,rigidity and how robust the pole is.IMO the xtremes come up short on robustness for every day use esp as their a lot more expensive than SLXs.i wouldnt mind buying a new xtreme every year if they were the same price as the SLX but their virtually twice the price and last less than half as long as an SLX.so SLX it is.
price higher/work harder!

Did you regularly clean and replace stop tape on your pole?

12 months seems a bit short to be honest.

I've always got about 18 months out of an extreme before the sections started to snap.

Hi Jonny, only when I service the pole and then if they are worn.  I wash it through daily and as a sole trader its only used by me. It does clean over 100 jobs weekly though.
I had a version 2 extreme that broke on the band when I pushed to a window shut that was only 6 months old.
I've ordered a slx

It's not about being tight, I think it's about what suits you best.
I broke 3 sections on my old Extreme 25', but I had a spare so borrowed sections off of that.
In the end I bought the latest Extreme 22' and it is more durable than the old ones...just.
I also have an SLX 22 which I stripped down to an 18' but unfortunately I am a big girls blouse, with dodgy elbows so I don't use it.
However...I am much more careful. Pollen gets cleaned by tilting the brush on its side and gently rubbing the glass with the plastic stock of the brush (make sure the glass is wet), I am much more careful with open windows and gently try them or if they don't close (i'll clean them while they are open, or not at all). And generally I don't throw the pole about. So far so good, we'll see how it goes.  ;D

Can't sleep  ;D

Has anyone tried the newer Super Max grey handled poles with 3k fibre? I'd be interested if they were tough poles and any good because they're supposed to be less flex more rigid!
Anybody tried one? 22' or 27'?
