scrim / microfibre cloths
« on: May 24, 2013, 10:24:04 am »
ive been using scrims for over 20 years,     they are ripping my hands up with all the ringing out etc  when washing them.     is there a big difference in the micro fibre cloths,    is it the same routine ,    washing them out and ringing out  to dryish like a scrim.

Once the microfibre are wet they are useless as you cannot wring them out like scrim, but they are a lot more absorbent.   The trick is to buy them in bulk, and at end of week stuff em in the washing machine.

Damp scrim all the way for me on leaded microfibre for wiping round/detailing. I wash all my cloths together let the microfibres dry, but I put the scrims rolled up in a empty bucket. The ones on the top dry almost but are still abit damp perfect for leadeds. I use a fresh scrim everyday gradually working my way through the bucket. Not wet scrims but damp almost dry makes leaded easier than mop and blade try it

There is no dry-ish with a microfibre. They are either dry and excellent or wet and useless.

I've learned the hard way that microfibre and leaded dont mix. Definitely stick to scrim for any type of leaded.

I've always found MF brilliant on leaded, one to get majority of the water off, then a dry one to finish.

where did lead windows come from,     good idea about scrims in a bucket,  keep dampish ready to clean and buff off.      im going to buy another pouch and have an extra pocket on my belt for a dry cloth in case needed to buff of edging.      ive noticed marks being left when detailing with my drying scrim.      ive always used I to clean and one to buff dry., the cleaning one more damper than the drying one.

I just use scrim and an old towel for a cill cloth.
I just put them in the washer with no soap no need to wring out.

i use both.grade A unger pre washed scrim is great esp when the weather is wet and drizzly.both for detailing and buffing.microfibre cloths are best in dry weather and you can use them for buffing slightly damp.

i never wring out scrim or microfibres and wash them with a little washing powder with no fabric softener.

scrim lasts far longer before needing to go back to the van to change for a fresh one when detailing.the only downside is they can leave fibres on the glass where microfibres dont.
